Bantwal: Retired postmaster commits suicide by jumping into river

Bantwal, Apr 23: A man jumped into River Netravati at Panemangalore near here on Saturday April 21. Local divers recovered his mortal remains on Sunday.

The man who chose to kill himself in this fashion was Yashwant Adkar (66), a retired postmaster. He had left his home on Saturday on the pretext of visiting Puttur to bring medicines. At 7.30 pm on Saturday, he called his his son over phone to tell him that he was a Panemangalore bridge, before abruptly disconnecting the call. His family members went to the bridge and found his spectacles which were abandoned near the bridge.

They undertook search in the river with the help of divers and succeeded in finding out the man's body. The police said that the deceased was suffering from knee joint pain and he also had certain psychiatric issues.

A case of unnatural death was registered in the town polcie station here relating to this incident.
