Mangaluru, Apr 23: Congress candidate from Mangaluru South and sitting MLA J R Lobo on Monday April 23 filed his nomination for the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections.

Before filing his nomination, Lobo visited places of worship of different communities and sought blessings.

He began his day by visiting Shree Manjunatheshwara Temple, Kadri, CSI Shanti Church, Balmatta, Shree Suryanarayana Temple, Maroli, Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, Mangaladevi Temple and Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid. Thereafter, he met bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, who wished him good luck. Lobo then proceeded to Shree Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, Kudroli. He also attended mass at St Sebastian Church, Bendore and offered prayer in the presence of parish priest Fr Anthony.

Lobo's supporters gathered in large numbers at Kudroli temple and took out a procession to Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) where Lobo filed his nomination.

Speaking to reporters thereafter, Lobo said, "I submitted my nomination papers at 11.20 am. Before that, I visited various religious places of my constituency and prayed for peace, communal harmony and prosperity of my city.

"This election will play a special role in the future of our youths. They will decide our victory and defeat. I hope they are all with me in building a better future," he said.

"I am confident of my victory in the election. I am sure the people of my city will vote for development. I am happy about my performance in my five years as MLA. People too have appreciated my work and blessed me. I have succeeded in building and maintaining a good rapport with people of all communities in my constituency."
