Bengaluru: Rayanna Brigade president and former BJP MP join Congress, blame Eshwarappa

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (DC)

Bengaluru, Apr 25: Rayanna Brigade president Virupakshappa and Koppala BJP former MP Shivarame Gowda joined the Congress at the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here on Wednesday April 25.

On the occasion Virupakshappa said that there is no place in BJP for backward class community. “BJP president B S Yeddyurappa has poison all over his body and Eshwarappa has betrayed us. Since we are disappointed with the BJP for sidelining us and hence I have joined the Congress," he said.

“I have not betrayed the BJP nor the Brigade, BJP did. Hence I met chief minister Siddaramaiah,” he added.

“Rayanna Brigade was not active for the last few months. But now it will become active. It is an independent and apolitical outfit meant to fight for the issues of backward communities and would welcome anyone from any backward community, irrespective of his or her political affiliation. Elections are due in few weeks and we have not held any public meetings. We will meet after the elections. We will invite Eshwarappa too,” he further said.

He also said that he would campaign for the Congress candidates in Koppal and Raichur." We will strengthen the Congress party ahead of elections and will ensure its victory," he added.

Shivarame Gowda speaking to the media persons said, "There is no place for honest workers in the BJP. I come from Janatha Parivar background. BJP gave tickets to Karadi Sanganna and his son in Koppal but there is no value or respect for us. Then why we should work for BJP?"

In August 2016, Eshwarappa announced that the Sangolli Rayanna Brigade would begin activities to reach out to the Dalits in the state. But sources with the BJP say that the leaders, who were a part of the Rayanna Brigade, are disappointed with Eshwarappa, the Kuruba leader who had started the Sangolli Rayanna Brigade.

Kuruba leader of the BJP Virupakshappa was a ticket aspirant from Sindhanur .

Most of the politicians are selfish + opportunist. Till they get ticket + high position in some party they praise the party and once they are denied ticket they say bad about the party. These opportunist politicians are only after position + money and have no humanity + sincerity. Such people shoould not be allowed to join in another party coz tomorrow they will go back to their previous party or jump to another. They are really shameless people and politics is full of such idiots.

Sangolli Rayannawas a prominent warrior from Karnataka, India. He was the army chief of the Kingdom of Kittur ruled at the time by Rani Chennamma and fought the British East India Company till his death. Sangolli Rayanna born to bedara Nayaka tribe, sangolli village. He participated in the 1824 rebellion and was arrested by the British, who released him later. He continued to fight the British and wanted to install adopted son Shivalingappa as the ruler of Kittur. He mobilised local people and started a guerilla type war against the British. He and his "army" moved from place to place, burnt government offices, waylaid British troops and plundered treasuries. Most of his land was confiscated and what remained of it was heavily taxed. He taxed the landlords and built up an army from the masses. The British troops could not defeat him in open battle. Hence, by treachery, he was caught in April 1830 and tried by the British; and sentenced to death. Shivalingappa, the boy who was supposed to be the new ruler, was also arrested by the British.

Rayanna was executed by hanging to death from a Banyan tree about 4 kilometers from Nandagad in Belagavi district on 26 January 1831.
It is unfortunate that former Deputy CM Eshwarappa exploited the freedom fighters name for his personal political interest from a party none of his members participated in the freedom fight.

In November last year activists belonging to the Janata Dal (Secular) staged a protest in Belagavi on Wednesday against Pratap Simha, BJP MP from Mysore, for alleged abusive comments made about Kittur Rani Chennamma, Belavadi Mallamma and Onake Obavva, by those claiming to be his followers.

For BJP clinching to power is more important than the dignity of the Karnataka. They must stop using 'Rayanna' with their party association.
