Udupi, May 24: In an incident which happened at Hemmanni Guddimane in Muddumane Shiroor located near Brahavar, a family came to the rescue of one of its family members, who was trying to end his life. However, their joy was short-lived as the man they had saved lost his life shortly thereafter.

Arjun Naik (55) from Hemmanni Guddimane had become a liquor addict. He came home on the night of Tuesday May 22 and told the family members that he had decided to kill himself. He put together a creeper and made a noose out of it. After tying the noose to a cashew tree near his home, he had hanged himself from it. But as the creeper was a bit loose, Arjun's toes were just touching the ground. The family released him from the noose and saved his life.

Arjun then began walking. A few steps ahead, he lost his balance and fell down abruptly and lost his life. A complaint filed in Brahavar police station states that when falling down, Arjun's head hit a stone lying on the ground, which proved to be fatal. Police have begun investigation into this unnatural death.
