Mumbai: Proficient Tulu Kannadigas leader M D Shetty completes 90 years

Mumbai, Jun 13: Hotelier M D Shetty born in 1928 will on June 14 celebrate his 90th birthday. He played an instrumental role in the all round progress and welfare of the Bunt community here.

Fondly known as M D by everyone, Shetty was born to a Muloor-Kaup based couple Sheena Shetty and Deshi Shetty. He completed his primary education at his hometown and migrated to Mumbai in search of greener pastures. There, he grew up amongst the company of freedom fighters, journalists and politicians.



He was appointed Maharashtra President of Indira Brigade in 1973 in the presence of late prime minister Indira Gandhi. He was then elected president of the reputed Bunt Sangha, Mumbai in 1977 and took the organization to greater heights. He has remained as a veteran of Bunta Samaja till date.

He became the president of Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAAR) for two terms. Later he expanded the federation of hoteliers in Mumbai all over Maharashtra as the founding president of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association, Maharashtra. He was also president of Bunts justice board.

He is known to be a reliable companion to workers working in the hotel business and to other hoteliers.

A large number of well wishers have congratulated him on his 90th birthday and wished that he may live for 100 years.
