Modi is a peddler of lies, must apologise to nation: Congress

New Delhi, Jul 15 (IANS): Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "peddler of untruths", Congress on Sunday demanded an apology from him for calling it a "Muslim party".

It also challenged Modi to discuss his accusations against the Congress in Parliament during the Monsoon Session beginning this week.

"Prime Minister is the peddler of untruths and lies. He is lowering the dignity of office by distorting facts and misrepresenting history. He is desperate and has nothing to show for the last four years.

"Congress does not need certification of nationalism from somebody who are the descendants of not only non-participants of the freedom movement but also active collaborators of British," said senior Congress leader Anand Sharma.

Noting the Prime Minister is for "entire India and not only BJP", he said: "Congress has led nationalist movements and struggle for freedom. Calling the party a 'Muslim party' is not befitting of a PM. He has less knowledge of history. He writes his own history.

"With his statements, the PM not only disrespects history but also undermines the achievements of India. This sick mindset of his is an issue of national concern. He should apologise to the nation for making false statements and lying."

The Congress also appealed to Modi not to disrupt to the monsoon session of Parliament like the government did in the last session, but instead give "accounts of the promises he made in 2014".

"He doesn't have courage to have debates in Parliament and talk about his work. Be it on his promises on employment, MSP for farmers..all have been broken."

Asked about Modi saying Congress is interested only in the welfare of Muslim men and not women, Sharma said: "Since when has Modi become the protector of women.... The state (Uttar Pradesh) in which he was speaking is witnessing daily rapes. Even yesterday when he was giving the speech, a woman was gangraped in a temple and burnt alive... what action has he taken?"

"For him to say Congress is obstructing to enact a law in Parliament, is absolutely wrong. We are totally against triple talaq. But, when a bill comes in the parliament, there are some rules... Traditionally, the Standing Committee scrutinises it and only after that it is discussed and a law is enacted," he said, accusing the BJP of trying "their best to bypass the parliament so that there is no scrutiny.

The ruling BJP and the opposition Congress party for second day in a row on Saturday sparred over a report published by Inquilab in which the Urdu daily attributed a statement by Rahul Gandhi which the Congress said is "fake".

On Saturday it was the turn of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to legitimise an incorrect statement attributed to Congress President Rahul Gandhi. An Urdu daily(Inquilab) owned by the owners of Dainik Jagran, a newspaper with a pronounced pro-BJP tilt, had quoted the Congress president as saying that Congress was a Muslim Party, Congress mouthpiece National Herald said.

The BJP of “once again trying to polarise the electorate before the 2019 Lok Sabha election, and said that “it is the only thing Prime Minister Narendra Modi falls upon before every election."

When the government is on the path of lying, then rumours become the main policy of the government.

Instead of blaming Modi, Congress should have filed a defamation case against 'Inquilab' owned by the owners of Dainik Jagran, a newspaper with a pronounced pro-BJP tilt or front page apology for the mistake.
Whenever it became electorally tough, even in the state elections, Modi has always gone back to what he does the best, to do everything possible to instigate communal polarisation.
Modi lacks the basic political decency and civility. He is overtly communal and uncouth while addressing public and use it to the hilt to enthuse his political support base.
He is power hungry, uncompromising, confrontational and to win the 2019 election, he will go to any extent to use his speeches and social media to communally polarise Indian electoral landscape. There is little doubt now that India’s internal and external security will come under serious strain prior to 2019 election.
Modi’s speech in Azamgarh shows he’s keen to repeat 2002 Gujarat-like experiment to win 2019 polls.

This is the first time any prime minister has given rock bottom cheap statements which are absurd and quite unwarranted...
In a nation so diverse and huge as India we have to be holistic and not divisist...
They say you can win a few over a long time...
But you can not win over all for all the time...
Life in India is watching the man in the forefront more curiously than ever...
It is only when you go to the level of common masses and feel their pain and react honestly the faith in leaders grows...
Now you are only bashing your opponents rather than performing Mr. Modi...
