Mangaluru: Student council inaugurated at St Aloysius ITI

Mangaluru, Sep 20: Student council of St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute for the academic year 2018-19 was inaugurated on September 19.

S L Bhojegowda, MLC, South-west teacher’s constituency of Karnataka was the chief guest and George Pais was the guest of honour. The programme was presided over by Fr Dionysius Vaz, rector of St Aloysius Institutions. The programme commenced with a prayer dance. Subhash Shetty, president of the student council welcomed the gathering. The student council was inaugurated by planting a sapling in the pot. Student Council members led by the president took oath to work selflessly towards the benefit of the students and the institution adhering to the rules & regulations of the institution. MLC Bhojegowda was felicitated during the programme.

Addressing the student council members, George Pais said, “Please take proactive role in the council. Stay away from various distractions. Many times students go astray, go against the institution and ruin their own life.” Talking to the gathering he said, “Technical aspect is necessary in every field, be it construction, production or servicing. Opportunities are plenty worldwide for the technically skilled person. Dedication in your field is very important to attain success”. He also urged the students to make a habit of reading at least one financial news paper daily to get an idea of current developments and career opportunities.

Felicitating George Pais, the director of the institution Fr Eric Mathias said, “George Pais is an entrepreneur. He is a benefactor of our institution and because of his kind help, many poor students were able to get educated and build successful future. We must take his example and learn to be compassionate to our fellow human beings. God has given us in plenty- it may be our talents, time or money, we must have the good heart to share these for the benefit of our neighbours.”

George Pais was felicitated by the management. Naveen Kumar K S, principal of B A ITI, Thumbe appealed to MLC Bhojegowda to provide grant-in-aid to the unaided ITIs. Suresh VP, general secretary, grant-in-aid movement committee of private ITIs gave information to the MLC about the history and struggle of private ITIs in availing the grant-in-aid. Chethan R, treasurer of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Management and Principals Association drew the attention of the MLC towards the difficulties faced by ITIs during admission and examination.

Bhojegowda assured that he would do his best in providing grant-in-aid to the eligible ITIs and solving the problems faced by ITIs and said, “Teachers build the life of their students and make them capable of standing on their feet. More so with the teachers of ITIs, as they teach them technical skills which enable them to get employed. It is the duty of the Government to give good benefits to the teachers as they are the ones who build the nation.”

In his Presidential address Fr Dionysius Vaz congratulated the student council members and said, “Walk your talk. I am very happy that our students are growing to be the leaders. One would not become a leader overnight, he has to work first to gain the experience and then only he is able to lead. We should be like a river, which receives water from rain and then distributes it to others on its way. We should also share with others what we have.”

Students presented a cultural show. The programme concluded with the national anthem. Other dignitaries on the dais were Lohith- principal, SVP ITI, Belgaum; Gangadhar, principal, Narayanaguru ITI, Kudroli; Vincent Mendonsa, principal of the institution, Alwyn Menezes, vice principal of the institution and Roshan D’Souza, training officer of the institution. Gyaral Milton Lobo, secretary of the student council rendered the vote of thanks. Charan, a student of Electronics Mechanic trade and Robin Vas, junior training officer compered the programme.

The student council officials for the academic year 2018-19 are Subhash Shetty, president; Monica G, vice president; Gyaral Milton Lobo, secretary; Santhosh, sports secretary and Alphi Saju, cultural secretary.
