Mangaluru: St Aloysius College observes Hindi Divas

Mangaluru, Sep 20: To commemorate and celebrate the popularity of Hindi throughout the nation, Hindi Divas is celebrated on September 14 each year. On account of this, the Hindi Sangha and department of Hindi of St Aloysius College (autonomous) organized the Hindi Saptah (Hindi Week) which concluded with the Hindi Divas celebrations on September 18.

Usha Rani T R, deputy manager, SBI administrative office, Bejai as well as a wonderful writer and artiste was chief guest. Fr Dr Praveen Martis SJ, principal, St Aloysius College (autonomous) presided over the programme, Dr Mukunda Prabhu, HOD, department of Hindi, Sandhya Sirsikar, president of Hindi Sangha and Munees, secretary of Hindi Sangha were present on the dais.



Addressing the gathering, Usha Rani enlightened the students with various insights into the scope, development and popularity of Hindi. She also informed the students about the job opportunities and areas that the field of Hindi had managed to cover. She narrated various anecdotes and life experiences that she had undergone with regard to Hindi and its related areas.

Principal Fr Dr Praveen Martis SJ shared his views on the importance of Hindi and recalled of his days as a Hindi student.

As part of the Hindi Saptah, the Hindi department organized various competitions like retro singing, poetry and varna chitra. The winners of these events were awarded on the occasion.

The students also put up a cultural programme with ‘Hindustan Ka Zaayka’ as the highlight of the event. A food fest comprising of food items from various parts of the nation were served. The presence of students in large numbers made the event a grand success.

Monika Sharma compered the programme. Dr Mukunda Prabhu welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. He also expounded the importance of the Hindi language and traced the history of Hindi to its roots in his talk.
