Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Sep 21: A person from Choodenahalli within the limits of Anekal police station is learnt to have duped farmers and other villagers to the extent of about Rs 25 crore. His modus operandi was to promise to refund ten lac rupees to the people depositing one lac rupees with him and to pay one crore rupees to those giving him Rs 25 lac. He told them that chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy had issued him a bond and that as soon as the bond amount is realized he would give back the deposits of the people.

The man in question, Ramachandrachari after being pressurized by people to refund their money acted like he was consuming poison and got admitted into hospital. Farmers who lost money because of him came together in front of Anekal police station and demanded their money to be collected from the fraudster.

It is gathered that Ramachandrachari, who hails from Tavarekere in Nelamangala taluk, had cheated the people there and shifted his base to Choodenahalli in Anekal taluk 25 years back. Here too he cheated the people by showing to the people a bond for Rs 8,000 crore purported to have been issued by Kumaraswamy. He used to donate generously to temples and using the faith his act generated, also cheated officials and policemen too, it is said. Therefore he used to command high respect in temples and police stations. His unique habit was to prostrate before the police stations too, saying that it is the spot where Lord Krishna was born.

Ramachandrachari's son, Gangaraju said that his younger brother had been kidnapped some days back for ransom and after complaining to Anekal police they had secured his release. He revealed that his father, who said he would be visiting the bank, had later consumed poison. He claimed that he does not know about financial dealings of his father.

Anekal police said that the number of people cheated by the accused exceeds 300 and they include highly placed officials and police personnel.
