Maggi to return? FSSAI-approved lab finds noodles sample safe

New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI): In a major boost to Nestle India, FSSAI-approved laboratory of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) has found Maggi noodles to be in compliance with the country's food safety standards.

CFTRI had tested five samples sent by Goa Food and Drug Administration (FDA) when Maggi was banned in June in the wake of findings in Uttar Pradesh and other states that the instant noodles brand had lead levels beyond permissible limits.

"CFTRI finding shows that samples are in compliance with the food safety standards as per the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011," Goa FDA Director Salim A Veljee said.

Goa FDA had sent the Maggi noodles samples to Mysore-based CFTRI for retesting of the safety of instant noodles after FSSAI expressed apprehensions on state FDA's initial report, which had found lead within permissible limits.

In June, 2015, Nestle had to take Maggi off the shelves, after few states decided to ban the noodles.

FSSAI had also banned Maggi instant noodles terming them "unsafe and hazardous" for human consumption.

FSSAI had also said that Nestle violated labelling regulations on taste enhancer 'MSG' and ordered company to submit compliance report on its orders.

Meanwhile, Nestle India's new chief Suresh Narayanan had said that bringing the instant noodles brand back to the market is his top priority as he sought to strike a conciliatory note with authorities.

The strange thing I am observing and what I strongly feel that FSSAI is working on specific directions from someone and not based on proof of test results! . What else will explain their stand on accepting results from non-approved labs while rejecting the results from their own approved labs!?

Another shameful U-TURN by Feku Raj.

How long should we endure this U-turn gov. which lacks basic common sense.....???

Am surprised why CFTRI, Mysore is giving clean chit, while it said it was not under their jurisdiction when asked to test the noodles for the first time....??

Last year I had been to check a research report at CFTRI, Mysore and had to bring to the attention of the so called scientists all the blunders they made in expenses and profitability of the product concerned.

They are paid there for nothing.

Aubb, Make a habit to read properly before you write comments!. CFTRI, Mysuru has said clearly that Karnataka is not in their jurisdiction and Karnataka has to send samples to another lab in Kolkatta. The current samples tested by CFTRI, Mysuru were from Goa FDA!. Read again the above news and the previous one which you are referring about jurisdiction!. Labs wont test home state samples because of fear of influence and manipulation! or other issues!

When the State Govt. requested CFTRI to test a sample during the ban it refused citing that it was a central body. Now this new development brings to light the unsavory and unethical relations between multinationals and food scientists whose projects are often sponsored by multinationals or provide employment. Since I am in the fitness line for a long long time, I sincerely advice youngsters and all to shun all fast food as well as Coke and Pepsi, items containing margarine and all ready to eat. Some of the ingredients therein are not even listed in the labeling and govts world over have bowed down to their muscle. Fast food is a concoction of dangerous chemicals and provide absolutely no nutrition or protein. Did you know that items and drinks labeled Diet xxx too are a concoction of dangerous cancerous chemicals which make up for natural nutrients. The sad part is the youth will realize only when in their late thirties or early forties on their first visit to the hospital.

MAGGI must apply absolute food safety prudence to upkeep the food safety image which apparently got tarnished probably MAGGI manufacturers because of heavy manufacturing demands in India surprisingly and apparently forgot the routes of metals like Lead,Cadmium,Mercury ,Arsenic contamination through irrigation water/ organo-phosphorus/organo-mercurisal compounds(pesticides) from Wheat-fields to Wheat-silos to wheat-transportation route to Wheat flour mills spread all over india to MAGGI producing plants/factories spread all over india.

But, now, as a proactive step of food safety prudence, I presume apart from lead content, MAGGI should be tested for Arsenic, cadmium and mercury also since Indian sub-continents has chances of arsenic and cadmium and mercury contamination through water/pesticides through wheat flour through road-side pollution including organo-mercurial pesticides application during wheat-cultivation in farmers fields to wheats from field to wheat flour mills and wheat-flour transportation to MAGG plants this is nothing surprising-absolutely a normal situation expected now in MAGGI coming back to market scenario.

A cautionary note to MAGGI will always be that this time as a matter of utmost food safety prudence as a pro-active measures, all the MAGGI Plant Factory Managers/Production Managers only should accept the Wheat-flours from the Flour Mills who can provide them COA(Certificate of Analysis)of the heavy metals like Lead,Cadmium,Mercury and Arsenic complying with FSSAI standards including COA of organo-phosphorus and organo-mercurial compounds (pesticides) conforming to FSSAI standards in wheat flour .

Apparently MAGGI in millions were incinerated in cement plants. Those are the ones apparently could be the bad ones, were destroyed in millions for the reason best known to MAGGI manufacturers. MAGGI is a global company having best talents and presumably now can satisfy FSSAI standards with respect to MSG and lead.

Kindly be noted that samples taken by the FSSAI endorsed food inspectors are the ones endorsed in the court of law in terms of test-results and never otherwise.
