Trade among Andean countries grows

Lima, Mar 13 (IANS): Trade between member countries of the Andean Community (CAN) saw a 12-percent annual growth in 2012, the sub-regional bloc said here in a statement.

The statement said the multilateral trade volume among Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru -- the four member states -- rose from $9.261 billion in 2011 to $10.349 billion in 2012, reported Xinhua.

According to the statement, 73 percent of the intra-CAN trade came from manufactured goods, which doubled the figure of 36 percent in the 1970s.

The most traded products within the bloc are soy oil, copper wire, pure sucrose, ultralight aircraft, medicine, polypropylene, transporting vehicles, and animal feed.

The statement added that the CAN's exports are composed mainly of manufactured products.
