Kundapur, Jun 6: Unidentified miscreants have vandalised the St Antony's statue at Kandlur church near Basrur on the night of Sunday, June 5.
The incident came to light at 6.30 am on Monday June 6, when some people came to the church for morning prayers.
Kandlur church is a sub-station of Basrur church two kilometres away from Basrur. The statue was erected near the gate of the church. The miscreants broke the glass and destroyed the statue.
Circle inspector Divakar and sub-inspector Nasir with police personnel visited the spot.
A case stands registered at Kundapur police station.
Later in the evening of Monday, Udupi district superintendent of police (SP) Annamalai visited Kandlur and collected information regarding the incident of damage of the statue. Fr Vishal Lobo parish priest of St Philip Neri church provided the details. DySP Manjunath Shetty was also present.
