Bengaluru, Jun 10: There are indications that after the conclusion of Rajyasabha election, state Congress unit might undergo an overhaul. In-charge of party affairs in Karnataka, Digvijay Singh, is likely to become the first casualty of these changes.
Karnataka went through a number of upheavals during the last some days, and the state government came under fire from various quarters for the unprofessional way in which issues were handled. In an apparent displeasure at the way he managed the party affairs and utterances made by him, Digvijay Singh, it is learnt, is being shunted out of the responsibility, and former defence minister, A K Antony will be made party in-charge of Karnataka affairs. Congress high command also has deputed former MP from Kerala, K V Thomas, to supervise legislative council and Rajya Sabha election here.
Digvijay has long association with Congress affairs in the state and was seen as an experienced person here. He had functioned as an important link between the state Congress and party high command.
It is said that relationship of Digvijay Singh with Rahul Gandhi has turned sour during the recent past, one of the reasons being giving council ticket to Rizwan Arshad without the concurrence of the latter. Change in the guard may also influence cabinet reshuffle, it is felt. As Antony also is an experienced person, Siddaramaiah may not be allowed to have his say in all issues, one feels.
