Kasargod, Jun 11: Vidyanagar police have arrested U K Harris (36) from Mulleriya Kuntaru Uliayatthadka, the primary suspect of pledging fake gold in Muttathodi service cooperative bank to borrow loan.
Investigations have revealed that Harris has cheated the bank to the tune of more than Rs 1 crore.
Police have seized a car belonging to him. They have raided his residence and conducted investigations. They have seized nearly half kg fake gold jewellery and 30 receipts in the names of different people for fake gold bought from various shops. Police have information that he has bank accounts in the head office and Vidyanagar branch of the bank.
Police have already arrested bank's appraiser Nileshwar Pallikkere resident T V Sathyapalan(41), Bheemanadi resident K Jayarajan (43) for affixing fake 906 hall mark seal on fake jewellery and Chengala resident K Abdul Majeed (29). Nearly 50 suspects are said to be involved in the fraud. Police have extended their search in different parts of Kerala, Karnataka and Goa.
Investigations have revealed that nearly Rs 4 crore is the amount cheated to the bank.
Loans were borrowed by pledging fake gold in nearly 140 bank accounts. Police have hastened investigations. The investigating team has said that bank manager T R Santhosh, who is absconding presently, will be arrested soon.
