Udupi, Jun 12: The Badagubettu grama panchayat here has given an example to villagers by being self-sufficient in electricity by producing 5 KV solar energy for its own use.

It has installed 20 solar panels of 250 volts each on the roof of Panchayat building. Manipal's Tapmi Company has extended financial assistance to the panchayat.

Power cuts occur often in the rural area. The administration is of the opinion that their work should not stop due to power failure. The solar energy produced is sufficient to run three computers, eight fans, six lights and two printers in the office. Besides, thousands of rupees will be saved. There are plans to install more panels and sell the energy to Mescom in the future.

It is rare that a panchayat achieves self-sufficiency in electricity. It is a first of its kind in the coastal region. Badagubettu panchayat has taught others a lesson with it.

Congratulations to Badagubettu grama panchayat, by being self-sufficient in electricity by producing 5 KV solar energy. You have shown, to other panchayat and offices, how to be self reliant.

Individuals, biz houses should install solar panels, so that dependency on MESCOM, will come down.
