Bengaluru: No need of autonomous status for all temples – Siddaramaiah

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Dec 31: The statement given by chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on giving autonomous status to all temples in the state has drawn for and against views.

Leader of opposition Siddaramaiah said, “If the government does the work of developing the Hindu temples we do not have any objection. However, the financial condition of temples should be verified before giving them autonomous status.

“Many temples in Karnataka are facing a financial crisis. If they are given autonomous status, it will be difficult to manage such temples. The government tries to mislead people but they are intelligent. They will decide what they want,” he said.

KPCC president D K Shivakumar said, “The government is committing a blunder by keeping Hindu temples out of the control of the Muzrai department. Temples are the assets of the state. The government earns crores of rupees of revenue from these temples. It is not possible to assess the aim of the government behind this step. We will discuss this issue with senior leaders about this issue and decide.”

BJP national chief secretary and MLA C T Ravi said, “Muslims have Wakf board. Christians have their own religious board. When the government does not meddle in their affairs, why are the temples controlled by the government? Temples are the property of Hindu society. They should be given back to them. Devotees offer alms and charity to the temple out of emotions. That is why it is not right for the government to control temples.”

"The government is committing a blunder by keeping Hindu temples out of the control of the Muzrai department." My favorite statement amongst those coming from Siddu a Congress leader. He has a point. Muzrai department will cease to exist once this is done. Why can't the secular Congressis ask for bringing all churches and mosques' finances under the Muzrai department? Ivan was demanding Rs. 200Cr for minority development from where? Mullah and Maulvis are getting salaries from Government in certain states. But for Hindu temples...my favorite quote the conundrum above from Siddu.

Excellent move by the Karnataka Govt. Only bad politicians who wish to control everything that the citizen does and to make money out of it, will oppose the move. Running all these institutions(irrespective of which dogmatic ideology/belief they propound) is not the business of the govt., in a secular democratic republic based on justice, equality and liberty.[ Fraternity is a natural state of nature (the free-market system) unlike forced fraternity of tribalist, collectivist, socialist, communist societies.] Dogmatic ideologies (also called ‘religion’) are deeply personal things. How they run, whether they will run or shut down, who is allowed into these institutions: is not the business of the govt. Just like it is not the business of the govt. to run the Lions Club or Rotary club and to dictate who can become a member and who cannot etc. These are all private property & institutions and it is their decision how they wish to run it.///Dissolve all boards(whatever their name) and scrap all laws made to set up these money guzzling boards. Stop all funding to run, build and maintain so-called “minority” institutions.///India should only contain Indians and not minorities and majorities./// For any sort of cheating, misappropriation, violation of rights etc. the normal laws of the land are as applicable as to any other situation. ///The govt. has only 3 functions: policing, judiciary and armed forces ( and provision of common amenities where a pvt. enterprise may not find it profitable to run)./// We need the govt. to get out of our lives and do its job – give us good governance and rule of law.!

I am unable to understand the whole controversy here. Govt means elected by people and temple belongs to people so what is wrong if Govt controls temples Britsih have formed some rules considering the hindu society in mind at that time. Temple belongs to Bhakhs yes it is 100% true. But who is Bhakth We have bhakths for all over India for Kukke Subrabanya temple.Tomorrow if u make the management autonomous how will u select Management committe members No one has any answers. Temple is not some thing like Airport or Railway station to be managed by Private Bidder who gives highest bidding amount. It is not commercial place. People who are fighting for autonomy should address following things 1. what are the problems in current system of Govt Managing temple and how it can be rectified 2. What about thousands of temples which dont have any income and surivive by Grant of Govt 3. They should lay down How thei Grand Plan works - I mean alternate system where devotees manage temples As such Tulunadu has thousands of Bhoota Sthanas and Nagabanas and no Govt is interfering there. Also many Private Mathas and Private Temples - No Govt inferenc

Prasad, Surathkal..... temples / prayer center which are not under the control of Government are doing better service to society. Example: Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara, St Aloysius, Udupi Sri Krishna, etc. This proves, the temples / prayer centers must not be in the clutches of government.

Even Aurangzeb , British and Tipu Sultan gave funds for the upkeep of temples. But the present Karnataka Government does not want to give any funds. Regardless of this, what India needs is a Chairman Mao to chase out all gods and godmen. Only then can India start to progress.

in this matter I oppose Siddu....he says that those temples whose finanical position is weak will have problem..it is none of his or Congress's business..The devotees who attend that temple will take care...none of the churches or mosques get any grant from govt..it is only the devotees who do all the development...so let the Hindus also take care of their temples...it is good..

What an irresponsible statement? The govt earns crores of rupees from the temples??? Hindu community doesn't contribute to temples to fill the coffers of the state. If you are short of money, then regulate religious institutions of all communities and just not Hindu community...
