Brahmavar: Alert youth saves mother, child from getting crushed under oncoming train

Brahmavar, Jan 2: A heroic youth’s presence of mind saved the lives of two people at Barkur railway station on Saturday January 1.

A mother-child duo was trying to return to the platform and were crossing the tracks as they had missed their train. Just when they were about to reach the platform, a speeding train almost ran over them. Alert and quick Liston Fernandes, saved the life of two.

Liston Fernandes, who hails from Kachur, Barkur, was waiting for a train to drop his sister to a Goa-bound train. He rushed to the spot as people looked on, pulled the boy out first followed by the woman single-handedly.

All these things happened within a fraction of a few seconds as people at spot were raising an alarm and some watching the youngster in action.

Liston, by this rare display of great courage, saved the life of an unknown mother and son on the first day of New Year day.
