Kundapur, Jan 5: A two-and-a-half year old toddler died after falling accidentally into a cow dung pit near his family's cattle shed.

According to a complaint filed by Lal Bihari (26), a resident of Molahalli, Kailkeri in the taluk and father of the deceased, his son Anuraj (2.5) was playing near the pit in which the waste water from the cattle shed used to accumulate. Lal Bihari used to empty the pit every day.

However, on January 4, he could not do so as there was no electricity. At around 4.45 in the evening, children in the neighborhood were watching a JCB working nearby. In the melee, Anuraj somehow fell into the pit but no one noticed. They found his footwear near the pit after some time. A suspicious Lal Bihari searched in the pit and found his child unconscious.

Though he was rushed to a hospital, the doctors declared him brought dead.

A case has been registered in Kota police station.

At the toddler's age the parents must be very careful especially if there are dangerous situations around the house. I talk from experience in almost identical situation at that age, and I was pulled out from the cow dung pit just in time when I must have hyelled. We had no electricity 88 years ago in Balmatta Sanyasi Gudda where I was born and lived for the first 3 years of my life. After nearly nine decades I have lived to remember that! Jossy would not have been born to say RIP.
