Mangaluru, Jan 6: City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that six police officers of the city, including a woman police sub inspector (PSI), are suspended for dereliction of duty in two separate cases.

The scribes questioned the city police commissioner in the wake of a video going viral on social media. Shashi Kumar gave details in response to their query and said that they are already kept under suspension.

Rosamma, PSI of Pandeshwar women police station was suspended for showing negligence in the inquiry of POCSO related case of a minor girl who was sexually harassed. The police head constable was the accused in this case. Later, he was arrested.

In another incident, two assistant sub inspectors, two head constables and one constable were suspended for consuming liquor in the station itself. Senior police officers conducted an investigation in this case. This occurred on August 26, 2021.

A video in which police are seen dancing in a women police station went viral on social media on Wednesday. Clarifying the video and the cases, Shashi Kumar said, “There is no relation between the video that has gone viral and the cases in which the police personnel are suspended. In this video officers and personnel were enjoying themselves on account of Dasara. We did not see anything wrong in that incident. So disciplinary action was not taken.”

Correct action by our Police Commissioner. But why only suspension ? Termination or demotion will be a better option.

Anand, you are not aware of disciplinary proceedings in a government service. Initially they are accused only. Inquiry will be made, they will be given a chance to say in their defense. Only on the findings of the inquiry officer, the punishment will be decided.

I agree with your point and know that fact too. But in most of the cases the so called inquiry outcome will be in favor of the accused and the accused will be absolved of all charges and gets reinstated with all back pay.

Dancing and fun should be promoted in the police stations so that the police become more humane. The vibe inside the police station should be like in any other government office. People should feel free to go inside a police station to register a case.

Very good decision. This is called true leadership and transparency ways of dealing with disobeying the rules. Hopefully he will clean out the department and make every police obey and protect the public.

Alwyn Canada, you are right. In a Police dept .proper discipline must be followed .Police too must follow rules .Otherwise no need of Police if they do what they want. One must see that sheep follow their leader.Only problem here is one doesn t know how long he will be there. We know how it is if one tries to keep order ,very next some Politician might stretch his hand and send him to a corner.?You remember once one woman was transfered or suspended ?
