Appoint Gavaskar as BCCI Prez, Don't allow CSK, RR in IPL : Supreme Court

New Delhi, Mar 27 (Agencies): The Supreme Court on Thursday proposed former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar be appointed as interim chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in place of N Srinivasan till it gives final verdict in the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting and spot-fixing case.

The SC on Tuesday had told Srinivasan to step down as the BCCI chief to enable free and fair probe in the betting and spot-fixing scandal involving his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and some cricketers.

Meiyappan was found guilty of match-fixing and betting during IPL 2013 by the apex court-appointed committee, headed by former Punjab and Haryana chief justice Mudgal, probing corruption charges against team owners of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.

The SC also proposed no employee of India Cements, a company owned by Srinivasan, should be associated with BCCI.
The apex court also suggested IPL teams Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings should not be allowed to participate in the ongoing edition of the IPL.

The SC will pass the interim order on IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal on Friday, reports said.

Earlier in the day, the BCCI gave its proposal before the SC in the case saying it is ready to take disciplinary proceedings against those who figure in justice Mukul Mudgal committee report.

The SC on Thursday began final hearing in the IPL spot-fixing case.

The BCCI also told the SC a detailed investigation on the basis of findings of Mudgal committee report is required.
The cricket board also offered that Srinivasan would set aside for a free and fair probe and the Chennai Police may have a time bound probe into the IPL spot-fixing case.

"We'll have to think hard for the benefit of cricket and pass order," the SC said on the BCCI's proposal.
The justice Mudgal committee had also said allegations of fixing against Meiyappan require further investigation and also left it to the Supreme Court the issue of conflict of interest against Srinivasan, who heads India Cements that owns CSK.
It also comprised of additional solicitor general N Nageswara Rao and Assam Cricket Association member Nilay Dutta.
The over 100-page report went into various issues like suspected involvement of six India-capped players in fixing, betting allegations against Rajasthan Royals owners and the need to bring discipline in players.

The three-member committee had named in its report six prominent "Indian capped" players, including one who is part of the current team.

Under the Franchise Agreement and IPL's anti-corruption code, CSK runs the risk of facing disciplinary action including ban for the acts of Meiyappan, who was its Team Principal, for bringing the game into disrepute.

"The committee is of the view that the material on record clearly indicates that Meiyappan was the face of CSK and the team official of CSK," the report had said rejecting Srinivasan's contention that he was merely a cricket enthusiast.

The Board had earlier said that "speculative and baseless" charges against leading cricketers have been made by "unscrupulous" news channels and the apex court must pass an order to prevent any further damage to the image and reputation of "innocent" cricketers.

The court had appointed the panel on October 8 last year to investigate the scandal that rocked the popular Twenty20 tournament run by the BCCI.

Personally, I don't think Sunil Gavaskar is competent to take up this job. His EXPERT comments are always biased, he turns the umbrella where the wind blows and if it rains he is capable of saying it was snow fall. His innings as a Captain / player may have earned him fame and money in those days, but today's cricketers are far superior to him technically, given the high pressure they are in and the schedules they endure in all three forms of the game. The SC has no business to suggest names in what clearly is not their territory , legally they have been spot on in asking Srini to resign, as is holding the top post will obviously not help in solving the IPL controversy, which he, his son in law, political friends, his CSK team, and many others including possibly some present famous players have their hands dirty.

Gavaskar is not the right choice for the BCCI Head, he speaks out only on subjects that suit him and is on the payroll of the BCCI. hE HAS NEVER SPOKEN ON THE MATCH FIXING IN IPL. Kapil Dev is more of a nationalist, Sunil Gavaskar is only loyal to Maharashtra and the money & records he made. Selfish.

Good that the Supreme Court has come down heavily on the Arrogant BCCI Chief Mr. N Srinivasan, he considers himself as God's Gift to Indian Cricket. As long as he is at the helm of affairs, he will call the shots and the IPL which is nothing but a legalized den for money laundering by Politicians, businessmen, Film stars, etc., Dubai is the Headquarters for this and it is an open secret as to who are involved in this. The Kasargod connection also needs to be checked.

Dear AJ, knowing about the game is important to be an administrator, but it is not the only requisite. A good administrator also needs to be clean, fair and a good decision maker. Do you think persons like Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri are clean ? Definitely not.

I have full faith in the Supreme Court. Hope they throw out both Srini & Dhoni.

Sunil Gavaskar is also a man paid by BCCI. Another puppet of Srini just like Ravi Shastri. IS Bindra or Shashank Manohar or Kapil Dev should be leading BCCI.

Even Mr. Sunil Gavaskar is not that clean (Certainly a bit cleaner than a Politician!!!) because if we go back to memory lane, this same "Great Cricketer's" locker had unexplained wealth (Foreign currency & etc.).
And till date it remained as a "Mystery" because he had great "Clout/Influence" of the Higher Authorities.

Yes, he was a great cricketer for the game of cricket of his time and he brought accolades to the country... but certainly not that clean man to handle the affairs of B.C.C.I !!!! Which is the "World's most Richest Body of Cricket"!!!!

Control has passed from one crook to another crook. Gavaskar is unfit for this responsibility. Gavaskar was a great cricketer but as an administrator his integrity/credibility leaves a lot to be desired. He never spoke out against N.Srinivasan when interviewed by NDTV when the Gurunath controversy broke out. In fact he tried defending him Srinivasan. He is extremely partisan to certain Maharastrian players too. Worst of all he tries to present an impression of himself of being very righteous. However, people have seen through him.
