No criminal conspiracy in Babri demolition: Katiyar

New Delhi, Apr 19 (IANS): Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Katiyar on Wednesday said there was no criminal conspiracy in the Babri Mosque demolition as the Supreme Court on Wednesday revived the conspiracy charges against senior BJP leaders including him, L.K. Advani and Uma Bharti among others.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader who is also Founder-President of Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of the Hindu organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad, said he was ready to go to jail for the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

"There was no conspiracy, there is nothing of that nature," Katiyar said in response to a question by Times Now news channel on the revival of conspiracy charges.

"It is a conspiracy, but we will follow the orders... If I have to go to jail for Ram temple, I will," Katiyar said, who was in the Bajrang Dal at the time of demolition of the mosque in 1992.

Asked if he will resign from his seat in the Rajya Sabha, he said: "Why would I resign, there is nothing in it that I should resign."

The Supreme Court on Wednesday revived the conspiracy charge in Babri Masjid demolition case against senior BJP leaders L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh, Union Minister Uma Bharti, among others.

The CBI had petitioned the court for restoring criminal conspiracy charges.

The Allahabad High Court had earlier dropped the criminal conspiracy charges.
