Pakistan 'key partner' in region, says US Centcom


Islamabad, Aug 16 (IANS): The US on Wednesday said it wishes to continue the "key partnership" with Pakistan in the South Asian region.

US Army Central Command chief Lt. Gen. Michael Garrett termed his first visit to Pakistan as significant in continuing to build the relationship between the two militaries and countries, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy here.

While in Islamabad for a three-day visit, Lt. Gen. Garrett visited the National Counter Terrorism Training Centre in Pabbi. At the centre, he was briefed about Pakistan's efforts to train soldiers to combat terrorist groups, Dawn reported.

Lt. Gen. Garrett discussed with various high ranking officials of the Pakistan Army operations, training, and other areas of military cooperation between Pakistan and the US.
