Mangaluru: Employer, mother, recount fond memories of slain Deepak Rao

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 5: "I keep hearing that Deepak, who worked for me, was killed because of communal hatred. But he was always found to be friendly with Muslims and I saw him always conversing with them in Beary language. He was working in our firm since the last seven years, and he was a warm, friendly person. For us, more than an employee, he was a friend," recollected Majeed, owner of the mobile shop for which Deepak worked, with grief.

Majeed said that Deepak used to sell SIM cards and collect currency amount. "He used to reach the shop at around 9.30 am everyday, stayed here for half an hour, after which he went out to collect currency. I never had any inkling of him having enmity with anyone. He had confessed to me about some skirmish that had happened over the issue of hanging buntings. On the day he was murdered, he came to the shop and went out at 10 am. Before leaving, he said he would be returning by 12.30 pm to provide detailed accounts," he stated.

He also recollected that he had once visited the home o Deepak, and that Deepak had recently shared with him his plan of going abroad for work as his income had nosedived due to marked reduction in currency sale. "He used to be paid Rs 12,000 as monthly pay apart from some incentive from the company. But because of slump in currency sale, he was not even earning any incentive," Majeed stated.

Majeed said that the murder had happened near his shop and by the time he rushed to Deepak's rescue upon hearing his shouts, his employee-turned-friend had lost his life. "Thereafter I brought one of his friends to the spot. By then, police also arrived. I demand that the killers of Deepak be hanged," he stressed.

Mother grieves

Grieving over the body of her worthy son who was pillar of support for the family just before his funeral, Deepak's mother, Premalata, said that Deepak was the only support the family had. She said Deepak never had any enmity with anyone and she does not know why miscreants chose to end his life. She wished that the Lord would punish the killers.

"He had built the house in which we live. He had told me that the loan he had raised for house construction was almost cleared with only two lac rupees liability outstanding in the loan account. He assured me to release the gold jewellery pledged in the bank after the housing loan is cleared. He told me he had joined a fund that he would be able to look after me well," Premalata recounted.

The mother said she had told her son that she does not need the gold as he was everything for her. She confessed that she had stopped him from going abroad. "Perhaps I committed a mistake. If I had allowed him to go abroad, he would have been alive now. We had planned to conduct his marriage but he said he will marry after three years. He only attended Bhajan sessions and never interfered in others' lives. After reaching home at 7 pm everyday, he used to remain at home," she explained, recalling that her son was always with the family during breakfast and dinner.

RIP Deepak. We may have said this in hundreds of cases that the culprits must be hanged but no use. Cases like this keep happening and we just can not do anything but express our condolences and sympathy towards the families. Just helpless and only hope that things will change for good.

All these happening because of indian politicians and indian law... these 2 things will not allow a common man to live in peace.. i dont understand why our law allow us to put posters on road and govt properties... why paint these green and saffron on walls, just to tell others that u have more power or more money ?? And lastly, police and court first put these protesters behind bar for atleast 2 years, so these riot protest will stop

Still wonder why they chose him to kill?
    What was the motive ?
Surely he was not a random target, waiting for the detailed confession from the arrested.

If ever there was an app for humans where they will turn into paper ,i would tear all these 4 rrakshas into pieces n lit fire n once they turn to ashes would flush them in commode. So that there is no waiting for judgement,no serving jail then after some years they get bail. All this won't happen.
Mother's curse should become true.Whoever is amastermind shoukd never sleep in his whole lifetime.

It is very clear that someone was very jealous of Deepak ,that he was very good with minorities, his good behaviour pricked alot .Jealousy also kills. Its not new.

yesterday some people in this forum questioned his background. hope this information is enough for them. I always urge the readers that don't write a comment based on name/caste/religion. condemn the murders of any person, whoever done that. unfortunately some people, even well educated are giving justification for killing of these youths. really very sad.

Very Sad story. A person who worked so cordially with his employer and they shared a good relationship for a long seven years. Religion did not have any role in their relationship.

Now the murder of such a person has disturbed communally in the region, which I am sure his soul will not find it happy.

We really do not know the motive or reason behind the murder. The very unfortunate part of any murder case is that the person killed will not be there to tell his side of the story. Only evidences if found or if any witness known to him can talk on his behalf. It is the murderers' story which will fly and normally gets considered.

Let us pray that his soul finds peace and he and his family gets due justice.

A mother is the truest friend we have, what this mother has done to go through all this pain and suffering. God know that this mother needs fortitude and courage. Piece by piece, so many young men have lost their lives and have been stolen from their parents.
This killing spree in Mangalore should stop, why can’t some people just live in Peace.

As per local openion this boy has no history of any hatred or rivalry acivities. We lost a beautiful young soul because of goondaistic and egoistc enimity. The culprits already arrested must be punished with death penalty. If a small useless issue of buntings or banners costs a human life then that kind of barbaric elements must be thrown out from the sociey. No lawyers should provide any legal service to these culprits.

This is by far one of the saddest part of this entire episode. So clearly shows that it's nothing but just the cheap politics behind most of such incidents. Everyone knows who gets blamed if a Hindu is murdered and who get to gain mileage out of it as well.
Lot of sources say that Pinky Nawaz, one of the accused had been a ground level worker of BJP and was actively involved in election canvassing recently as well.

Just like we used to watch in movies these politicians have converted the real world into a cheap pit where innocent are killed and sleeping politicians wake up pretending to be the guardians and asking the remaining people to vote for them so that they can save them all.

The wolves amongst the sheep are these politicians my dear friends. You deserved better Deepak RIP bro.
