Rajasthan man, 83, marries woman less than half of his age for son

Jaipur, Feb 21 (DHNS): A desire for a son to look after his ancestral property has led to a 83-year-old man in Rajasthan to tie the nuptial knot with a woman who is just 30 years old.

Sukhram Bairava of Samraida village in Karauli district tied the knot with 30-year-old Rameshi Devi in presence of his first wife. He got married for the first time in 1958.

Surprisingly like a first timer, Bairava was dressed in a sherwani performed every ritual at the wedding and rode a horse. Residents of almost 12 adjoining villages were invited for the wedding and most of them were seen busy taking pictures of Sukhram and his wife Rameshi.

Photos of their wedding have also gone viral with most of the people terming the wedding as illegal. However, as per villagers, his first wife Batto was willing to get off his husband married for second time in hope of a son. The couple also has two daughters who are married.

As per Sukhram, a contractor by profession, he lost his only son 20 years and now he married hoping to get a son who can take care of his property. " I have enough property and there is nobody to look after it. So, I was keen to get married again," Sukhram told media.

When DH contacted Zila Parishad chief Surendra Maheshwari, he said, "We have contacted the nearest police station but so far no report has been lodged against him". However a team comprising of tehsildar, the block development officer and the local station house officer has been formed and directed to visit the location and confirm once a detailed report is received, the administration will take action against the accused".

Senior police official at Karauli Police Station confirmed, "We have not received any complaint on this matter. But taking cognizance on media reports we have issued orders for a thorough investigation in the issue.

The truth always been absorbs under the carpet. Our national media never conduct prime time debate on this issue but are always on fauls-unleash the pratices of muslims which is not existed. There are so many such evil practices still exists in majority community like child marriages, honor killings, caste discriminations, untouchability, polyandry, devadasi but no one dare to discuss in public domain.
