Oman: Muscat Mogaveers successfully hold ‘Dr Shekar Salian Memorial Cup’

Oman, Apr 12: The enthusiastic and energetic Muscat Mogaveers Koota (MMK) successfully organised and conducted a fun-filled sports event ‘Dr Shekar Salian Memorial Cup 2018’ men’s volleyball and women’s throwball matches, in fond memory of beloved late Dr Salian, founder member, mentor and advisor of Muscat Mogaveers.

Dr Shekar Salain who is popularly known as the ‘Doctor Uncle’ was not only well-known amidst Mogaveera community, but also was a well-known personality around all sections of the society, in and around Muscat, for his unconditional social service through his medical practice.



The event was held by the very energetic and enthusiastic executive Muscat Mogaveers committee members consisting of Shashi Puthran (President), Ramanand Kunder (Vice-President), Shankar Kotian (Vice-President), Padmakar Mendon, Sujatha Kunder, Aarathi Kanchan, Sahana Girish, Shesh Kanchan, Sudeep Salian, Lokanath Puthran, Shivaram Kanchan, Yashwant Mendon and Sandesh Kotian. As always, Muscat Mogaveers, known for their hard work, perseverance and full-of-energy, the event was packed with men’s volleyball matches and women’s throwball matches.

The efforts of the committee members were very much reflecting in the entire event, of their month long hard work and co-ordination. The enthusiastic team of the executive committee members was scintillating in conducting all the events efficiently during event process.

The event proceedings were conducted by compere Vandana Padmakar Mendon who, rendered a prolific welcome speech to the entire Mangalurean community, that created a flavor and effervescence of one family under one roof spreading around the stadium and all the Tuluva community gathered there shared the same feeling. Mendon not only remembered the achievements of Dr Shekar Salian, but also collectively made an assurance to continue Dr Salian’s legacy of one family under one roof.

The Muscat Mogaveers committee also welcomed an esteemed panel of guest’s eminent personalities from the Mangalurean community, including the founder members and senior members of Muscat Mogaveers Koota. The eminent panel guests on event, Majid Al Wahaibi, general secretary, Muscat Sports Club, Shashidar Shetty, managing director, Abeer Group, S K Poojary, managing director, Red Rose Furnishing, Manjunath Nayak, group finance head, Special Technical Services LLC, Dr Anchan CK, founder & MD, World Wide Business House LLC, Leela Shekar Salian, Prakash Naik, founder and senior member of MMK, Sudhakar Karkera, former committee & senior member MMK.
All the esteemed panel of guests was felicitated by senior members of MMK Ashish Amin, Purandar Kidiyoor, Dhananjay Mendon and Devanand Amin.

Muscat Mogaveers President Mr. Shashi Puthran, addressed the gathering and then all the Eminent Panel of guests gave their appreciation and best wishes for this Mega event.

The event was inaugurated and curtain raiser was conducted by Majid Al Wahaibi and guests of honor by unveiling Dr Shekar Salian Miniature and the Dr Shekar Salian Cup 2018. Then the panel of guests was introduced to the teams and the first game began by 9 am.

The warriors of Bunts Oman, the rocking MCCP, daredevils of Oman Billawas, the enthusiastic Beary’s Muscat, the ambitious Vishwakarma Muscat and the courageous Muscat Mogaveers participated in the mega event.

All the Tuluva community teams were shining in different jerseys spreading the message of ‘One Family under One Roof’. All teams had experience and also were seasonal players, who displayed their extreme talents in all the matches of both volleyball and throwball.

The executive committee members and an energetic MMK volunteer team conducted the entire sports event efficiently and smoothly, wherein all the players, played for one cause of unity and pride of Tuluva community.

The gathered Mangalurean community witnessed a scintillation and top-class volleyball and throwball matches, which created an electrifying environment in the entire stadium.

The Gathering witnessed a nail-biting final in both volley ball and throw ball matches, where in Muscat Mogaveers emerged as winners and MCCP as runners-up in men’s volleyball and Oman Billawas emerged as winners and Muscat Mogaveers as runners-up in women’s throwball events.

All the teams were equally cheered and supported during the entire event again depicted unity and togetherness.

The main attraction of the event was the delicious and mouth watering Tuluva breakfast arranged by members. The flavor of our tradition of motherland and blessings of elders was the reflection which all experienced in the food and its display. The famous Mangalurean delicacies was the center of attraction for lunch, which not only took all the Mangalurean community, to their homeland and made them cherish and remember, their childhood days with their elders and family members. Lunch stall was arranged by Mughal Darbar restaurant. The evergreen evening snack of Tuluva community (Golibaje) was also one of the attractions to all the gathered community members, which was sponsored by Udupi Home restaurant.

After both finals, all had an exciting and energy packed closing ceremony conducted by Shesh Kanchan. Though, the entire gathered community members were a bit exhausted after a long day and in the late evening, but the energy and the rendering of the compere created the same flavor once again, as all started in the early morning session.

The executive committee members welcomed chief guest of the evening by presenting a floral bouquet to Dr Satish Nambiar, honorable chairman Indian Social Club, Muscat.
The chief guest praised the entire Tuluva community for their efforts once again to be under one roof and also whole heartedly appreciated the efforts for Muscat Mogaveers to conduct the mega event for Dr Shekar Salian, as he was a close associate of Dr Shekar Salian.

The compere announced the presentation of mementos by the chief guest to all the match referees and event supporters and beautiful trophies were presented for all the winners of Dr Shekar Salian Memorial Cup 2018.

There was also a raffle draw for the players conducted at the end of the programme with some very exciting prizes sponsored by Crowne Plaza Sohar.

Compere Shesh Kanchan announced the closure of the mega event with a heartfelt vote of thanks, for all who have extended their unconditional support to make this mega event a grand success. A special thank you was extended from the MMK committee members to all the entire Tuluva community, who were gathered around for the entire event with their enthusiasm and support.

It was more an event of interaction, moral support and motivation, than a competition. All the team events were cheered by all the participants and it reflected unity and strength of the community.

To conclude, it was an event filled with energy, motivation and unity and all the Tuluva community members dispersed the Friday evening, with an assurance of meeting each other once again, filled with hope of success, not only to themselves, but also to the entire Mangalurean/Tuluva community.

    Kudos to MMK Committee for organizing Dr. Shekar Salian Memorial Cup 2018. The event was well planned, managed and executed meticulously. There could have been no better way to pay homage to the great leader, a noble Doctor and a kindhearted human being by organizing this event in his memory. Wishing MMK all the very best to continue his legacy for years to come.

    I also take this opportunity to thank all the participants from different Mangalorean community for actively partaking and extending your unconditional support. It was you who made the event a grand success. A big thank you for that. It was a very healthy contest and I am sure all have enjoyed as a family event.
