Mangaluru: Christians urge government not to cancel Good Friday holiday

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, May 31: "The action of cancelling or modifying the public holiday on Good Friday, the sacred day for Christians, as restricted holiday should be dropped," urged a delegation led by MLC and parliamentary secretary of the chief minister, Ivan D'Souza, after meeting chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and deputy chief minister Dr G Parameshwara on Thursday, May 30.

The cabinet subcommittee, which is formed by the state government to look into the number of public holidays, has arrived at the decision of cancelling public holiday on many birthdays of historical personalities. The Catholic Sabha, a Catholic laypersons association from city, had expressed anxiousness that Good Friday is also included in that list.

Ivan D'Souza said that the deputy chief minister, who received the appeal, has promised not to cancel the holiday on Good Friday.

Don't break your head behind holidays...instead, as Langoolji said, let's work one hour extra without expecting the overtime for the betterment of our country... Unity is strength... Prime Minister alone can't bring prosperity to the country.. It's the responsibility of each and every citizen. Let's not find out the loop points and negative points instead lets support and encourage the government whoever he may be... Let's think after all it's our county, we will build it. Jai hind 🙏

There are many Christians & Hindus live and work in Gulf Countries. Even though there are no holidays given by respective Govts. , the above said communities celebrate and participate in their respective festivals here in UAE.

Working on Good Friday for the people of God is the greatest sacrifice.

Therefore am against the request for Holiday on Good Friday.

There was Church Attacks in Udupi and D.K. districts.
    It was during Yeddy's period.
Yeddy gave free hand to attack churches.
A D.C. Maheshwar Rao colluded in the Church Attacks.
Maheshwara Rao had pre-information of Church Attacks in the manufactured Sathy-Darshini book.
Very lately, the BJP, VHP, BD and RSS have regretted of blasphemous blunder of attacking churches.
Hence, the government of Karnataka should take care in attacking others religion in the holidays.

Being a Roman Catholic and a strong faith follower I feel one should not ask for anything. If given it is OK or leave it. Majority of the firms in Mumbai (mainly owned by Marwari's and Gujaratis ) don't even give holidays on good friday and Christmas. We made a practice for so many years now put leave on Good Friday and Christmas and so on. No meaning at all. Let us be peaceful and calm and wait for the goodwill of the government to respond.

And we have seen this periodically by tying rakhis, visiting sangha niketan during Ganesh chaturthi, we have seen solidarity when our present bishop elected recently...Now also we get some forwards and videos which Rems mentioned and try to create unnecessary fear and enemity among us by some forces. Please stop spreading such enmity and let's try to live in peace and harmony among other communities...dont spoil the names of some groups by making some videos viral. I request cyber police to find out such worms who spread enmity by false news and show their respective places.. Our religious leaders too should take a step to train the faithful...

We have all witnessed the history that the blood was shed to sustain one's religions or the faiths believed by the nations.

THEREFORE THE RULERS SHOULD UTILISE WISENESS AND WISDOM WITH REGARD TO CONFISCATING / ENCROACHING IN OTHERS RELIGION OR FAITHS.

AS A CITIZEN WE ARE ALL PRIVILEGED TO HAVE NATIONAL HOLIDAYS.

CHRISTIANS HAVE EXCLUSIVELY TWO NATIONAL HOLIDAYS:

    HOLY CHRISTMAS.
    AND HOLY GOOD FRIDAY.

These are declared as national holidays to all like all other religions have been given national holidays and we respect it.

THEREFORE RESPECT NATIONAL HOLIDAY'S WITHOUT ENCROACHING OR CONFISCATING THE RIGHTS GIVEN FROM THE ALMIGHTY GOD AND THE NATION'S CONSTITUTION.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHO MOOTED TO MAKE IT A RESTRICTED OR CANCELLING A NATIONAL HOLIDAY HOLY GOOD FRIDAY.

    PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL.
MAY GOD BLESS INDIA AND THE WHOLE WORLD.

Work is not worship. Listening and learning the will of God is worship.

    1) Cains offering was rejected not because he was lazy, but had no love in his heart. He was passionate about growing crops.

    2) Jesus appraises Marys decision to listen to him contrary to Martha.

We should condemn this unjust law of scrapping Good Friday holiday. Americans work 8hrs x 5 days a week and are still productive. We need a scientific approach and not superficial judgment.

Mr. Bala - Sunday is not a religious holiday declared by the Government. It is a weekly day off for rest after 6 days of hectic work. For Christians it is a day of worship & obligation. So, please don't substitute Sunday for Good Friday & Christmas Days.

Also, major religions follow Sunday as weekly day off from Labor.
