Mangalore, Feb 25: St Aloysius College (autonomous) has been declared College with Potential for Excellence (CPE).
Of the 149 colleges selected for the honour during the third phase, St Aloysius College features for excellent infrastructure, quality education and socially relevant outlook to education.
During each plan, the University Grants Commission (UGC) accords the status of “College with Potential for Excellence” to recognize the potential and merit of educational institutions and to encourage them to excel further. Consequently, the selected university/college gets fillip for further research and infrastructural development.
Under the jurisdiction of Mangalore University, only two educational institutions, including St Aloysius College, have received the special recognition, where as in the state 21 colleges are recognized as CPEs.
Earlier, the college had gone in for a re-accreditation with UGC’s National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) in December 2009, and the NAAC, on the inspection and recommendation of its peer team had accorded the college with a rare “A” grade with 3.48 points.
