Mangaluru, Feb 18: In a mysterious development that has stumped authorities in the city, citizens in various parts of the city have complained of smell of gas pervading the air.
In what could possibly be a gas leakage, people in various areas have reached out to media persons and police wanting to know the source.
The smell has been pervading the city's air since the afternoon of Thursday February 17, but no cause has been detected yet.

People experienced the smell in Bendore, Kottara, Car Street, Kodialbail, Derebail, Mannagudda and other areas. In some places, people reported that the smell was quite strong.
Meanwhile, MRPL has clarified that there no leakage in their plant.
The mysterious smell has caused anxiety among people.
Police sources told daijiworld that efforts are on to detect the source of the possible leakage and urged citizens not to panic.
"We have checked MRPL, HPCL, Total Gas, MCF and automobile gas pumps in city and highway areas as well as tankers, but no leakage has been found," the police commissioner said.
Deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V has urged people to reach out to authorities for any information on the odour.
"A complaint in this connection has been made to the control room of district disaster management authority.
"Police department, fire service personnel and deputy directors of factories and boilers have been immediately informed about the same. The operation to detect the source of gas leakage is in progress," the DC said.
"Citizens are requested to contact toll free number 1077 of district disaster management authority if they have any information or complaints regarding the suspected gas leakage in the city," he said.
