Dony Lobo (67), son of the late Vokil Cajetan (Tiger) Lobo and the late Mildred Lobo, husband of Thecla, father of Charmaine / Lloyd, grandfather of Joseph, brother of Veera Colaco and the late Lionel Lobo, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018.

Funeral service will be at 11am on 28 December at St Sebastians Church, Madhavaram High Road, Thapalpetti, Jambuli, Madhavaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600060, followed by burial.

I really liked his konkani album" mangalore's konkani traditional songs Part 1 and 2.
He sang during Pope's visit to Bajpe.

Sad and shocking news to hear the sudden demise of Dony Lobo.

Dony Lobo a long time MCC member has contributed a lot to our club by promoting mother tongue Konkani lanuguage through his music, traditional songs and Maando to the younger generation. He was instrumental in training our community as well as parish children in singing Konkani hymns and teaching keyboard through Konkani and English choir groups. He served Our Lady of Rosary Church, Qatar parish as Choir master for nearly 30 years and many children have benefitted by joining his choir in their early age. He will be remembered for his great dedication and service to our club and parish. A great singer with his baritone golden voice, a great musician, a loving person and friend to many fondly known as Dony uncle will be missed dearly amidst us.

We offer our deepest condolences to his family members and pray to God to give you all solace and strength to overcome this loss. May Almighty grant his soul eternal rest and may he join the heavenly choir singing with the angels eternally.

I am mortified to learn of Dony Uncle's passing. As a child growing up in the church in Qatar I always looked up to him and held him in high regard and with the utmost respect. He was a godsend to the church as he loved children with a profound love and encouraged them to sing in his children's choir no matter their vocal ability. I have so many fond memories of him singing and children just loving him and raising up their voices to the heavens as he gave them a chance to do just that. I'm nearing 30 and still remember that he was the best choir master I've ever come across. I will never ever forget his genuineness, sincerity in his calling and a selfless love and dedication to the church. Everyone will miss him dearly. He has touched so many lives and I'm sure the Lord has a special place in his heart for him. We love you, Dony Uncle. May you enthrall the Lord with your singing up there. My deepest condolences to the family, who I never met but he always spoke so fondly of.

Dear Thecla, Charmaine/Lloyd and Veera,

Deeply saddened by the passing away of Dony whom I have known for over 50 years.

Gifted with immense talent and a deep voice, Dony was a self - taught musician who played the guitar, piano, organ and keyboards with great aplomb. I have seen his voice mature over the years into a rich baritone. He sang everywhere - in church choirs, at formal events, informal gatherings and family functions - entertaining everyone with his vast array of English and Konkani songs, serious and liturgical music. Yes he was an accomplished exponent of Jim Reeves numbers which were the flavour in Mangalore during the 60's and 70's. His cassette of traditional Konkani songs brought out during the 80's is a great contribution to the preservation of our local cultural heritage.

He also performed very well in his career with Richardson Hindustan often being named as the 'Salesperson of the year'. Later he moved to Doha and besides his job he taught music to many.

In his demise we have lost a friend and a great musician... may his memory live.
May his soul rest in eternal peace and joy with our Lord. Perhaps he may join he angelic choruses in heaven.

Donny was a cousin of mine. Unfortunately, we were never in close
proximity. I will never forget Donny at my sister's wedding in 1975
taking over the organ when the organist had gone for Communion
and stunning the congregation with his baritone voice. The organist
gave up her seat on her return!
I have been trying to get a CD of his Everytime we go to Mangalore but
with no luck. Will have to convert the Audio tape I have.

Sad news. We lost a great Konkani musician cum singer. Dony Lobo was known as the Jim Reeves of Konkani. He brought out a beautiful album 'Konkani Traditional Songs in early 80's. Good orator, compere and was very active in Church activities in Qatar. Wonderful choir master who taught music to many Mangalorean students in Doha.
