Fr Daniel D'Souza (79), son of the late Joseph's D'Souza and the late Carmine Crasta, Kanakapady, Kasargod Dist, brother of Sr Gratia D'Souza, Sr Anne D'Souza and Cyril D'Souza, passed away on Decemeber 27, 2024.

Fr Daniel D'Souza served in St Joseph's Cathedral, Chikmagalur and in parishes of Mudigere, Kable, Herebailu, Hassan, Koove, Fathimapura, Gadenahalli, Jayapura.

A requiem Mass with the mortal remains of Fr Daniel D'Souza will be held at St John De Britto Church, Narampady on Monday, December 30 at 7:00 am. Thereafter the body will be taken to St Joseph Cathedral, Chikmagalur. Public viewing at 2:00 pm with funeral Mass at 3.00 pm, followed by burial on the same day.

Very Fr Daniel was born on 16th September 1945 at Narampadi, Kasaragod district, and was ordained for Chikkamagalur Diocese on 24th March 1972. He served initially as Assistant Parish priest in Mudigere. Later, he served as Parish priest in Kabale , Hirebile, Hassan, Coove, Chikkamagalur Cathedral, Gadenhalli, Fathimpura and Jayapura Parishes. A priest dedicated to his vocation, Rev.Father Daniel loved children, gave full support to lay leadership to serve in Parish, extended all the hospitality to people wished to call on him. He also served in Jivana Jyothi Retreat Team for many years He was instrumental in building new Churuches in Kable , Hirebile and Jayapura. People loved him very much. For all the pastoral requirements, He was always available in the parish. He was a simple, humble and zealous Missionary priest. He was with the people and people also were with him whereever and whenever he was approached. He was fondly addressed to as AMCHO PADRAB. He had great devotion towards blessed Sacrament. He was always with his Breviary and Rosary. Last few years, his health was not good; yet, he was always displaying a smiling, jovial and cheerful countenance. He maintained good Public Relations with all his faithful. He was very kind and was a Champion of the poor. He helped poor and needy, specially poor students in gaining education. A stalwart priest of Diocese of Chickmagalur is alas! no more. But his good deeds will forever be remembered. He worked tirelessly for the growth of the Church. His strictly Christian way of life inspired many a vocations. Exactly, 40 years ago, he built a church in Hirebile which is boat shaped, which was an unique Church in Karnataka. It stands as a monument to his hard work. He always lead a simple way of life. Good Bye dear Fr. Daniel, we thank you for your lovely services to the church. May your soul rest in eternal peace.
