Fr Mathew Lewis SJ (89), Ex-Rector, St Aloysius College, Mangalore, passed away on Tuesday January 1, 2008.
Funeral on Wednesday January 2, at Bangalore.

I fondly remember fr. Mathew lewis teaching us English and religion at Aloysius..Even though he was a strict desciplinerian, he would let me go early on penance class. May his soul find eternal light
Fr. Mathew Lewis S.J. was the Rector during my College days from 1966-72.He later returned Rector again from 1977-80.He was found the most fitting Rector to handle the Aloysian Centenary Celebrations. During his tenure then President of India the Late Dr. Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy visited the College. May His Soul Rest in Peace.
My heartfelt sympathies to the Jesuit Provincial and the Jesuit priests on the sad demise of Fr. Mathew Lewis. He was of great help to the students.

Fr.Mathew Lewis was the rector during my college days at St. Aloysius. His powerful and meaningful talk is in my heart even today. A shorty but very high and humble thinking man of those days at St Aloysius. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Fr Mathew Lewis S.J. was the seventeenth Rector of St Aloysius College from 1966 - 72. He later returned to be the twentieth Rector again from 1977 – 80. He was found be the most fitting man to handle the mammoth task of the Aloysian Centenary celebrations.
It was during Fr Mathew’s second tenure that the then President of India the late Dr Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy visited the College. He had a good organizing capacity. Once the centenary was over, Fr Mathew Lewis opted to work as a missionary with the poorest of the poor in Mundgod in North Karnataka.
With the passing away of Fr Mathew Lewis, we have lost a good man. My heartfelt sympathies to the Jesuit Provincial of Karnataka ,Fr Vijay Kumar Prabhu S.J., and the whole Province. Naveen Frank Sharjah
