Fr Joseph John (J J) Saldanha (82), resident priest, Milagres-Mangalore / Kemmannu - Kodi Ward, son of the late Lawrence and Mary Saldanha, brother of the late Valerian, the late Marceline, the late Pauline, Raphael, the late Thomas, Roque, Zacharias (Shabi) and Peter, passed away on Wednesday July 8, 2009 at Fr Muller Hospital, Mangalore.
Mass at 8.00 am. on Thursday July 9, 2009 at Our Lady of Miracles Church, Mangalore. Final Rites with Mass at 3.00 pm in Little Flower Church, Kemmannu.

Fr J J Saldanha, son of the late Lawrence and Mary Saldanha was born at Kodi ward of St Theresa church, Kemmannu on September 17, 1927 and after completing his High School studies at Milagres High School Kallianpur, he joined St Joseph's Seminary, Mangalore with a view to become a priest for the diocese of Mangalore.
He was ordained priest by Bishop Dr V R Fernandes of Mangalore on November 16, 1954 and later he served as an assistant parish priest in 2 parishes for 7 years and then as a parish priest in 6 parishes for 41 years. After retirement as a parish priest in 2003, he was severing as Resident Priest in Mangalore diocese.
When Fr Saldanha was parish priest in St Joseph's Church Bajpe, Mangalore, he constructed the present church, the foundation stone of which was blessed by Pope John Paul II during his historic visit to Bajpe- Mangalore in 1986. Fr Saldanha also built the new belfry. The new church was blessed on May 4, 1988. Fr Saldanha had a chance to personally meet Pope John Paul II when the pope visited Bajpe in February 1986.
Fr J J Saldanha celebrated his 50 year priest hood in the year 2004.
