Sr Alvina B S (58), nee Therese D’Souza, member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangalore, daughter of the late Sebastian D'Souza and Remedia D'Souza, Kinnigoli, sister of the late Lilly Menezes, the Lucy D'Souza, the late Mark, Mervin, Laetitia, the late Gregory, Lawrence, Cyprian, Raymond and Louis, passed away on Monday May 16, 2011.
Having completed her SSLC at Little Flower High School, Kinnigoli Sr Alvina responded to the call of God and joined the Congregation. After her first Profession on April 1973 in Mangalore she did her teacher’s training at Sacred Heart Teacher Training College, Jayanagar, Bangalore. Thereafter, she was sent to Ludhiana, Punjab, where she served as a teacher. She also completed her graduation and post graduation at the Punjab University, and later her B Ed at St Ann’s College of Education, Mangalore.
Like St Therese, her patroness, she was a lover of God and humanity and went about doing good without counting the cost. A gifted person, with the qualities of head and heart, she endeared herself to one and all by her loving and winning ways and her committed service wherever she served. She loved children and youth. She has left behind a number of admirers and friends all over the country. She has always been a happy and contented person ready to be at the service of all.
She has rendered service as a teacher, vice-principal and hostel warden in many schools in the North, such as Ludhiana and Bathinda in Punjab, Karnal in Haryana, Naini in Allahabad, and as principal at Berhampur in Orissa, Solan in Himachal Pradesh and also in Mangalore at St Theresa’s School, Bendur.
Her mortal remains will be brought to St Sebastian Church, Bendur at 2.30 pm where well-wishers and public can pay their last respects.
The funeral Mass will be held at St Sebastian Church, Bendur at 3.30 pm on Wednesday, May 18.
