Fr. Fulgence Fernandes OCD, Aged 96, conventual at Avila Jyothi, Carmelite Seminary, Mapusa, Goa, belonging to K.G. Province, breathed his last on 25th December 2011 at 8:30pm.
Fr. Fulgence born on 14th of July 1917, hailing from Benaulim village in the suburbs of Margao, Salcette, Goa, was a man cut out to be a monk by all counts. Though led by the urge of the Spirit he joined the diocesan seminary and was ordained a priest on 26 October 1944, he was restless till he found his right place in Carmel. On completing his novitiate formation he became a Carmelite on 17th May of 1955.From thereon he never looked back. Soon he would set sail as the first Indian missionary to the Carmel
After having joined the order, he served the communities of Podanur, Manjumel, Margao and Mapusa. For 18 long years he has rendered selfless services in the Middle East based in Kuwait.
The funeral is sheduled to take place on 27th December 2011 at 4pm, Carmelite Monastery, Margao, Goa.
