Dr. Kamaleshwar Lal Agrawal (Dr. K. L. Agrawal). Born in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh on March 5, 1932, was one of 9 siblings in the family of Agarwals.
He was an M.B.B.S. graduate from King George Medical College in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and then took additional training in Pathology. He moved to Mangalore for better prospects, in 1959, to join the faculty in the Department of Pathology, Kasturba Medical College (KMC). To him goes the credit of being the only Agrawal in Mangalore, then and for many more years. Through his hard work and dedication, he rose through the ranks to be appointed as the Head of the Department of Pathology in 1965.
He was a Leader by himself and lived as a role model for 21 years until 1986. An outstanding educationist and mentor, he was keenly involved in teaching medical students and in the training of a large number of postgraduates in Pathology, several of whom have pursued active academic careers throughout the world. He also served as the warden for the KMC Men’s hostel in Kaprigudda. Prior to his retirement, he served as Vice Principal of KMC, Mangalore. He was an active Rotarian, serving as President of the Rotary Club of Mangalore and being selected as a Paul Harris Fellow. He had a passion for cricket, Bridge and quiz – at one point KMC held an annual quiz competition with Professor Srinivasan as the quiz master and the winning college team would receive the Dr. K. L. Agrawal trophy.
