Bengaluru: Education dept instructs 5.5 hrs of school from Mon to Fri, half day on Sat

Bengaluru, Sep 22: The Education department instructed all private schools in Karnataka to mandatorily conduct five and half hours of lessons from Monday to Friday and half day on Saturday.

According to the Karnataka education act of 1995, it is mandatory to hold five and half hours of schooling every day except Sunday and Saturday.

The education department received complaints that certain private schools are violating this rule. Instructions are given to BEO, BRP and CRP to investigate the matter.

The education department has also received complaints against the BEOs, BRPs and CRPs of dereliction of duty. The department warned the erring officers will be taken off their position if they are found to be lax in their responsibilities. In such a case they have to continue their career only as teachers.

    The kids reach home by 4pm after school gets over by 3:30 pm . More than half of the day is spent in school right from morning 7: 00 am to 4pm ( Not at home ). There no time left for extra curriculum activities and studies at home. Please I request to reconsider the school timings making it 5:30 hrs on weekdays instead of 6:30 hrs . Thanks

    I feel the current school timings are too long.It should be till 1:30 . Children feel exhausted ,not getting enough time to play and self study .It's my humble request to reduce the timings.This will be also helpful for their social and emotional development.

    Yes it's really a very good decision children should learn by activities rather than just by reading only books so that they will gain more knowledge apart from that they will get creativity thinking ability which we need in this era to compete but these schools making students stupid by making them mugging and write exam which is of no use in future and also they should play more to be healthy but the whole day will go for study and doing homework

    It's a humble request to please reduce the number of hours at school and give more importance to the quality of education. Kids are really burdened and tired with lot of portions.. Young minds should explore , innovate and think more rather than getting just tied up to the curriculum and whole year slogging into it day in day out. Request your kindself to please bring this rule into effect it at the earliest. Thank you

    Agree with 5.5 hrs from Mon to Friday But disagree with Sat and Sunday classes. With many parents working, this is the only time the children get to do things with their parents, visit friends, etc.

    Not eating well and falling sick quite often. They are not getting time for their extra curricular activities... Too much pressure from school. Very good decision taken by state education minister. Really private school are totally doing Monopoly . My humble request to education minister plz impose this rule forcefully and quickly. This rule will be very helpful for students. I notice that nowadays kids haven't no time for play and another things . Only study and study thi is very harmful for kids health. Plz reduce school timings sir.

    Although school is fun, students also need to spend time with their family, friends and other near and dear ones. Additionally, students also have to face the problem of non availability of proper and sufficient sleeping hours, due to which their mental and physical health is immensely affected. More time in school is directly proportional to more written work at home, which I strongly condemn.

    Yes, It's much needed and very good step taken by education minister. School should reduce every period timing as well as cut down some irrelevant periods. I have noticed that 2-2 periods of same subject in one day. Even if extra classes are needed better take in online as now having online classes are not a big deal to conduct. School management have to think on this approach as well.

    It is really a good decision. They must have from 8.30 am to 2pm maximum. Children are getting tired not eating well . Because they have to stay in school from 8 to 4 pm

    Very good decision taken by state education minister. Really private school are totally doing Monopoly . My humble request to education minister plzl impose this rule forcefully and quickly.     Education for empty hours without infrastructure is a near waste... Equip the teachers with facilities and tools... Pushing someone to run with legs tie is no more needed... Local eminent people , senior citizens and retired gazetted officers must tour the school every month to ensure inadequacies....
