Sullia, Jun 18: The mortal remains of a man were found on the verandah of Kantamangala government school in Ajjavara on Monday June 17. The head of the deceased person had been crushed with a stone. This is the second murder in the taluk within a week, both victims being killed in a similar manner.

The deceased, Vasantha (45), was a native of Kottacchi in Heggala village of Virajpet taluk. He is survived by his wife and two children.

It is reported that Vasantha married the daughter of Krishnappa Naika, a resident of Kudurepaya in Chembu village of Madikeri, and had been residing there. Vasantha had been working in Kaniyoor, Kadaba for the past seven months. It is understood that he borrowed Rs 1,000 from his employer and returned home. Vasantha’s body was identified by the household members where he had been working on Monday afternoon.

It is said that Vasantha had been consuming large amounts of liquor and had not visited his home for seven months. His two sons are studying at Aletti Ashram School.

SP Ryshyanth, ASP Rajendra S, and other police personnel visited the scene. A dog squad and forensic team also gathered vital information.

Two packets of liquor and one SIM card were found near the body. A stone was found near the remains with blood stains on it. When the SIM card owner was contacted, he claimed his mobile phone had been lost some time ago.

This is the second such murder in the taluk within a week. On the night of June 9, a woman was murdered in a similar fashion at Bellare Market. Police have arrested Jayarama of Kalmadka in connection with that incident.
