Railways freight traffic increases by 5.24 percent


New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS): Indian Railways Wednesday reported an increase of 5.24 percent in freight traffic ferried during the period April 1-Nov 30, 2014.

According to the Railways, it carried 713.11 million tonnes of freight as compared to 677.58 million tonnes ferried during the corresponding period last year.

During last month, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by Indian Railways increased by 8.47 percent and stood at 91.45 million tonnes.

The railways had transported 84.31 million tonnes of cargo during the correspond month of last year.
