AIKWO holds second Karnataka Konkani literary conference

Mangaluru, Aug 11: All India Konkani writers’ organisation (AIKWO), had organised the 2nd Karnataka Konkani literary conference on Sunday, August 9 at Kalaangann in city. The conference was attended by writers from Karnataka, Goa, Kerala and Maharashtra.














The Inaugural was presided over by AIKWO President Vincy Quadros. AIKWO general secretary Dr Edward Nazareth welcomed the gathering. Roy Castelino the president of Karnataka Konkani sahitya academy inaugurated the Conference, by symbolically hoisting the Konkani flag attached to a huge pen.

In his address, Roy Castelino gave a call to AIKWO to work for unity among writers, attract youth towards Konkani and to enrich Konkani literature.

Eric Ozario the secretary of JKS spoke about ‘Konkani’s future and litterateurs’. He said that Konkani writers should work to strengthen Konkani with carrying a pen in one hand and the Konkani flag in another.

Fr Valerian Fernandes the editor of 'Raknno'weekly conducted a session on ‘Konkani orthography in the Kannada script’. He explained the correct way of writing Konkani in the script and also clarified doubts of the writers.

Jose Salvador Fernandes from Goa presented a paper on ‘Roman Script – The script of the future’. He gave a picture of the literature in the Roman script in Goa and issues concerning it.

Irine Rebello the executive committee member of AIKWO conducted the proceedings and proposed the vote of thanks.

The 2nd general body of AIKWO met later in the afternoon. Dr Edward Nazareth presented the annual report and Richard Moras the treasurer presented the audited statement of accounts which were approved. Discussions followed. It was resolved to hold literary conferences, workshops and seminars in various parts of Goa,
Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala this year. The general body was presided over by Vincy Quadros.

    Unity among our writers is required . Its a basic mandatory thing. Well known writers like HM Penal, Wilson Kateel, Andrew L DCunha, Gladys rego , Edwin J F D Souza missing !!!!

    I somewhat agree with Mr. Mangaloren, but few of them have ego issue and there is no medicine for that.
