Mangaluru, Feb 24: It was an evening to remember as internationally renowned pianist Marialeena and ThreeX, a musical comedy group from Vienna, Austria cast a musical spell on the audience with their splendid performance at Kalangann here on Tuesday February 24.

Organized by Mandd Sobhann the concert began with the trio playing the number 'Four little dances' with two violins and a piano. Marialeena joined the trio by introducing them to the audience. The performance that followed was magical, as the audience sat mesmerized by some of the wonderful numbers by Marialeena and the trio. The concert concluded with the Konkani classic 'Hav Saiba Polthodi Vetha' played by Marialeena and later accompanied by the members of Sumell in vocals.

The members of Sumell also sang a few songs of Manddo with the revived compositions and gave the taste of modernized Manddo numbers.

In between the concert a formal programme was held wherein 'No'vyo Voviyo', the maiden CD of the Konaknni choir of Mandd Sobhann Sumell was released by Elias Sanctis, a businessman and social worker.

Addressing the gathering, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann Eric Ozario said, "To revive and rejuvenate the vovyos the Mandd Sobhann has reinvented them. Vovyos have been sung traditionally from the past 500 years. It was time to retune the vovyo. The vovyos have been composed by Richard Monteiro and me. This effort is inspired by Hotel Palindrone which reinvented 'Hav Saiba Polthodi Vetha'.

"We are also conducting base training programme to teach the Novyo Vovyo for the interested on next Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. The vovyos will be taught in the old tune and the new tunes. The Sumell will also sing for the audience whenever they are invited.

President of Mandd Sobhann Louis J Pinto and convenors of Sumell were present.

The CD has been brought out by the efforts of Sumell, a group of 77 people which includes singers and musicians. Every CD contains the script of the vovyo, so that people can understand them and sing. It is in Kannada and Romi scripts.

It was indeed scintillating music rendered by just group of three. Of course with accomplished pianist Marialena Fernandes. Their Mastery over the instrument was all the more evident in the way they played. Congratulations for that splendid evening.
