Bengaluru, Jun 23: Chief minister of Karnataka, H D Kumaraswamy, said that some communalists and forces supporting casteism have been trying to kick up unnecessary controversies in order to bring disrepute to the state government.
He was speaking to media persons after holding meeting with police officers at the state police headquarters here on Friday June 22.
He warned all organizations and institutions, without regard to which religion they have affiliation, of strict action if they try to ignite communal disturbances in the state. He told police officers to ensure that activities which incite communal passions do not occur anywhere in the state. "If such things happen, respective district superintendents of police and inspector generals of police would be held accountable," he stated.
Kumaraswamy said that no organization including Sri Ram Sene should come out with statements which can trigger communal sentiments. "We will keep close vigil on the activities of such organizations or individuals. We have taken steps to regulate crime rate in the state, take care to see that law and order situation is not vitiated, and turn the police stations into people-friendly offices," he added.
He expressed resentment at the involvement of police in a fake encounter case in Vijayapura and murder of a cattle trader in Perdoor, Udupi district. At the same time, Kumaraswamy asserted that police personnel would not be transferred on the basis of their religious and caste affiliations. He said he expects police officers to work well at their current places of posting and earn a good reputation for the government. At the same time, people who are found to be guilty of dereliction of duty would not be condoned at any cost, he warned.
The chief minister was all praise for the effort put in by special investigation team in achieving progress in investigation concerning murder of journalist, Gauri Lankesh.
Deputy chief minister, Dr G Parameshwar, stated that vacant positions in police department like constables, inspectors, and police sub-inspectors would be filled in phases.
