Mangalore, Jan 29:
Women belonging to Janavadi  Mahila Sanghatane (JMS)   and students belonging to the  National Students  Union  of  India and  Students  Federation (SFI)  staged a protest  here on Wednesday January 28, against the attack  on women by members of the  Sri  Rama  Sena.

Women and students in unison, urged the government to enforce a ban on Sri Rama Sena. Indian  culture  always respects women, but Sri Rama Sena which  projects itself as a saviour of  Indian  culture, has been attacking women and thrashed the women  who on their own will wanted to enjoy their leisure time," said K S Laxmi, state president of  JMS, addressing the protestors  in  front of  the office of the deputy commissioner(DC), Dakshina Kannada district here.

"Sri Rama Sena does not have the right to beat up women and  it is not authorized or entitled to teach the women what to do and what not to, said  Ramani, one  of  the leaders of  JMS.

The protestors  also  urged  the concerned to  take  strict  action against  the Sena  and  accused it of unleashing thugs to launch attacks on the women.

Students come out of classes:

The students  who came out  of their classes,  joined  the  protestors  in front of  DC office. The protest was organized by NSUI and SFI.

Addressing  the protestors,   Thejaswiraj,  president of  NSUI  said, that the Sena activists have donned the roles of Talibanis, by  trying to  push  their own  agenda  on the  youths. The  Sena people  would do well to turn their attention to solve other problems the society is facing, which will help in developing the society, he advised.

Leeza, a student said, that women need to be treated as equals. "There was a time when the women used to sit in a corner of the home and was treated like a servant.  Now, things have changed, and the present-day women do not like to be relegated to that position. We will not give in to partisan and derogatory treatment. We neither subscribe to nor tolerate what the Sena says or wants. The state government should take stringent action against the perpetrators of the attack, so that such attacks do not recur in future," said Jeevan, SFI president.

The Sena activists do not like the idea of the students and youngsters freely mingling with each other, overlooking religious affiliations, said another student who addressed the protestors.

The NSUI  and  SFI  had given a call for the college bundh on Wednesday January 28,  but the college administrations did not allow for the same. So the colleges went ahead with conducting classes for those who were present.

I appreciate Mr.Abu Saad[Mangalore/KSA].Yes, the parents as I am and many like me will not like our children to visit PUB.,for drinking and drugs and obscene dance..I know a case in a school 13 10th std girls became pregnant!!!The girls who claim that their parents do not object, then who are these people?

Can they show their faces before the camera so that we can ask their parents to comment about it? I certaily do not approve the incident and in fact I condemn it as no body can be allowed to take law in their hands.HOPE THAT BETTER SENSE WILL PREVAIL ON ALL CONCERNED SO THAT MANGALORE WILL BE A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN

Instead of punishing wrong dovers, Government should ban this kind of Pubs, Arrack centre, Gambling houses etc. If there is no room to do such kind of un cultured things naturally things will go smooth. Here in one side Govt. is encouraging for Pub culture and in other side asking not to do so.

Even today a large number of parents arel not ready to send their children to Pub or Bars. But the same time I dont support Ram Sena or any other group to take justice on their hands. Our Children should understand what is right and what is wrong. Better to protest against the roots of bad things.

I felt very much sad and heartfelt after watching the incident happend in mlore. people have thr own life and everyone know how 2 take care of their personal life. no one have the right 2 dictate their right, who are sena activist? what they want 2 prove by themself? first let them take care of their families and parents and their sisters n daughters. let them not interfear somebodys business. they suppose not to beat girls. that is very much wrong and i strongly condem this bloody act staged by some political crazy minded basturds.

Dear friends, I do agree that the way rama sene took law into their hand is not at all acceptable. But I still cannot understand how is it that many media personnel arrived there so quickly covering the whole incident. A common man like me will be forced to accept that media people were given a cue that such activities will be going to take place.

We women have to stand together and fight the evils of society and ensure that groups like rama sena and bajrang dal are banned.. These groups spread terror among people in a different way. If we shut-up and sit this will not stop...lets work towards being on par with men in every way.

Ravi Kadri, women are more responsible than men on the whole in social beheavior. They should be given equal rights as men. However if women cannot go to the Pubs, I wonder if any Pub has the courage to display the sign board women not allowed.

What a way of protecting our Indian culture by beating women? Who gave them the right- to raise their hand on women. Parents are there to guide their children not these goondas. All the youth all over India should protest to ban these goonda outfits. They are spoiling our culture of Hindutiva .Spoiling peace of the nation , by exploitation of women. Today, women are considered to be equal to men. So wake up youth and fight for the justice till you win. The whole world is fighting against terrorism and here opposite things are happening in our state.

Recent attack on Girls at the Balmatta Pub in M'lore is to be condemned by every M'lorean. We are living yr 2009, the society is rapidly changing to Western culture-Malls, Pubs, Bar & Restaurants, Night clubs, so as our young boys & girls, gone are those days were women sat at home, while men enjoyed themselves in Bars & parties.

But it is sad thing that our traditional culture, family values are vanishing, the main cause is our parents who do not guide their children in proper way, most of the boys and girls who are supposed to come home early and have dinner with family are hanging around in pubs, bars etc.

This culture can lead into alcoholism, drugs etc. So our earnest request to our M'lorean society and elders is to guide your children. If women want to have fun let them have with family and friends together, let us have ladies night out- build pubs only for women.

We have such places for women in Sydney were women feel safe. Let there be a law to close all Pubs and Bars by 11 P.M., let our men behave well & respect the ladies, and same goes with ladies, as they are fighting for equal rights. And they should be given. It is the duty of every M'lorean to see their city becomes a role model to other cities in Karnataka & India.

That way no hooligans from Sri Ram Sena or any organization will not mess with our life & our way of living, lets not take these issues politically, but as a lesson for future.

Brave women citizens of India you have done a good work as your rights are stolen by criminals. It is your time to teach a lesson to the wrong doers. May I ask you also to have a Sita Sena similar to Rama Sena. We are fighting for regionalism, extreme love for a particular language, Border issues, river water sharing crisis, Kashmir disturbances, caste systems, Infiltrations from Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.  People are going hungry, food shortage all over the world, Economic crisis all over the world. Without concentrating on all these issues goondas are creating unnecessary issues.

Look at it the other way my friends. What if some lady was abducted  from this pub after heavy drinking and being raped by her friends? Then the whole media and the public would have protested against this "Pub Culture". So think. I would never pray this should happen to anybody's sister, daughter or wife. what is better? Prevention is better than Cure.

If  women are found drunk  and sleep in  gutters then it is the concern of whole society. Pubs are a place of liesure. But remember the people who visit pubs "Drink Responsibly". Ravi Kadri - these women are saying that they want equality in freedom as you have. Whether they go to pubs or to restaurants or on the beach should be left to them, you and I are no one to decide. They are citizens of the state and pay income, sales, excise and other taxes just like us so why should they be denied the right as we have, just because we are males and they are females. Even though we are known as the world's largest democracy, in truth we are not because thugs like RSS, Bajrang Dal, VHP, Shiv Sena, Rama Sena, BJP and others threaten our very freedom granted under the Constitution of India. The Hindus worship so many women gods then why are they treating the women so cheaply by beating them, pulling their hair, calling them name and molesting them. The Government should put them behind bars for 5 years RI so that it will be a lesson for others not to abuse women. The women should also receive financial compensation for the trauma and humiliation suffered and the money should be taken from the Rama Sena. Jai Hind.

Ravi Kadri, We women are not saying we want 'equality on going to pubs, drinking alcohol, gambling, drunkard males sleep on roadside gutters' We are telling you and the goondas to leave us alone. When we are educated enough to share your burden of earning bread for the family, we are sane enough to decide what is right and what is wrong too.

The pubs are not a property of men - there is no law that women should not visit pubs. If you are really asking women to stay away from the pubs, there is something going on that women should not know about - what is it ? Exploitation ? We will not allow it. We will come to the pubs to ensure that you don't exploit some of us.
