NRI Doc Charged in Anna Nicole's Drug Death

Los Angeles, Mar 14:
Anna Nicole Smith's death may have been from an accidental overdose, but prosecutors say her ex-boyfriend and two doctors were responsible for feeding the Playmate's addiction.

Howard Stern, her lawyer-turned-confidant, and doctors Sandeep Kapoor and Khristine Eroshevich were charged in an 11-count complaint, including conspiracy, unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance and prescribing or administering a controlled substance to an addict.

"These individuals repeatedly and excessively furnished thousands of prescription pills to Anna Nicole Smith, often for no legitimate medical purpose,'' attorney general Jerry Brown said.

Prosecutors said the doctors gave thousands of prescription drugs to Stern, who then gave them to Smith. Medical examiners said Eroshevich, a psychiatrist and friend of Smith's, authorized all 11 of the prescription drugs found in the Hollywood hotel room where the model was found unresponsive shortly before her death on February 8, 2007.
