Mangalore, Jul 30: The management, teachers and students of Sarojini Madhusudan Kushe School/College, Attavar, witnessed a unique programme on Friday July 30.
At the school auditorium, the office-bearers for the Rotary Mangalore Sunrise Interact Club affiliated to the school/college were installed during a significant ceremony in the presence of the founders of the school, Madhusudan D Kushe and Sarojini Madhusudan D Kushe.
Bhishma from the pre-university was installed as the new president. Pranit as vice-president and Harshith as secretary took their respective installation pins from the founders and other dignitaries.
The programme conducted by the students was held under the supervision of Kamlesh Baldev, chairman of Interact Club. He explained the objectives behind the formation of such clubs within educational institutions and explained that it was a novel effort between the students and school for the welfare of the community at large. He thanked the management for their encouragement and involvement in enrolling their students to be the active members of Interact Club. He informed that the Club is in its second year and is growing both in terms of membership and quality of programmes.
Chief guest Madhusudan D Kushe expressed his pleasure on being invited for the innovative programme and shared his childhood memories with the students. He said, "One has to be truthful and committed to one's responsibility. It’s not enough to become mere citizens but must also strive to become 'special citizens' of the future". As part of the programme he symbolically handed over a green sapling to the president of the club to be planted in the campus.
The incumbent president of Rotary Club Sunrise, Shailesh Jain stressed Rotary's extra efforts in stimulating the student community by encouraging them in similar extra-curricular activities which would eventually help the society at large. He offered further guidance and encouragement in such projects and informed that Rotary is engaging more schools and colleges to install Interact Clubs. The Lourdes Central School is one such institution which has come forward to initiate Interact Club in the near future, he informed.
Former president Rotarian Blany Fernandes, headmaster of the school K K Upadhyaya, correspondent Suresh Raj, Interact co-coordinators Mukesh and Rajesh, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld weekly and Rotarian Hemacharya were present at the programme, which was attended by more than 300 students along with their teachers.
