Bengaluru, Aug 21: Reviewing the flood damages situation in Belagavi district, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday directed the district administration to complete the survey of the flood damages expeditiously so as to submit the report to the Union Government with facts and figures to secure assistance.
“Delay in the survey and assessment of the damages will complicate the situation,’’ he said in his meeting with the elected representatives and officials.
The Chief Minister also directed that steps for crediting the compensation to the flood affected people should be taken.
Steps would be taken to see on giving an opportunity to help the people who lost their houses during the floods last year in this year’s flood damages, he said promising to release the compensation amounts for the flood affected people in last year’s floods. Measures would be taken to provide alternative measures to help the people without proper documents regarding their houses, he said.
The Chief Minister promised to take steps for resettlement of the people in alternative sites if sufficient lands were available for those wishing to move.
Covid situation: More vaccines
Taking stock of the Covid control situation in the district, Bommai said the State Government has decided to provide essential drugs for those recovering after being Covid infected till full recovery.
The Chief Minister said the Belagavi district will be supplied additional 25,000 doses of vaccines per day over and above the daily supply of 25,000 doses and directed the Deputy Commissioner M G Hiremath to submit suitable requisitions for additional requirement of vaccines.
He directed the Health Department officials to serve notice to the doctors who had been appointed to report for duty immediately and if they still do not report, such appointments must be cancelled and alternative arrangements must be made.
The Chief Minister directed the district officials to increase vigilance and strict compliance of the Covid containment norms in addition to increasing the testing in view of Belagavi being a border district. Testing must be done at railway stations and border check posts, he said.
The Chief Minister said the government has requested the Union Government to supply 1 crore doses of vaccines in accordance with the goal of vaccinating 5 lakh persons per day. Districts will be supplied with vaccines based on the requirements. He also directed the officials to take adequate precautions against the possible third wave.
Water Resources and Belagavi district in charge minister Govind M Karjol informed the Chief Minister that preliminary estimates have assessed the damages in Belagavi district to be around Rs 2,800 crore.
Government Chief Whip in the Council Mahantesh Kavatagimath, Assembly Deputy Speaker Anad Mamani, MP Eeranna Kadadi, MLAs Anjali Nimbalkar, Mahantesh Yadavada, Satish Jarkiholi, Mahantesh Koujalgi, Ganesh Hukkeri, Shrimant Patil, Mahesh Kamathalli, Anil Berake, Dhuryodhana Aihole spoke on the problems in the district.
The Chief Minister later inaugurated the Chikkodi testing laboratory. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Umesh V Katti was present.
