Mangalore: Criminal Bejai Raja Hacked to Death near Falnir

Mangalore, Dec 1: Gangster Bejai Raja alias Shailesh, resident of Bejai, was murdered by a gang of three persons near West Gate building, Falnir road here on Saturday December 1 night.
Bejai Raja was accused and in the murder of another criminal, Panduranga Pai alias Pandu Pai, that took place in May 2009. He and his accomplices had been arrested in the case, and were acquitted in September 2010 for want of evidence.
On Saturday at around 9.45 pm, Bejai Raja came near West Gate building in a car and got down to make a phone call from a PCO.
Just then a gang of three arrived and attacked him with swords. They threw the swords on the roadside and fled from the spot.
Locals gathered immediately and rushed a critically injured Raja to the nearby Unity Hospital. He breathed his last soon after.
It is said that internal rivalry may have led to the murder.
The body was later shifted to Wenlock hospital.
Kadri police are investigating.
