Beltangady, Oct 28: Prakash Karat, national general secretary of CPI (M) has said that the Sowjanya case will be discussed in the parliament, if the state government does not take it seriously.
Karat was speaking after meeting and consoling the parents of the late Sowjanya at their residence at Pangala, Dharmasthala on Sunday, October 27. Sowjanya’s parents are reported to have said that they do not have faith in the ongoing investigations and feel that only a CBI enquiry will deliver them justice. Karat had asked them not to be scared and assured that his party would be with them until the culprits are brought to book.
“The investigations are not being conducted properly. The people of the state are urging for CBI enquiry. The state government is delaying the case without taking proper action. Several such incidents have occurred in the past too, and the incident is important considering that the police have not been investigating such incidents in the past. The family of Sowjanya and the people are urging for CBI enquiry as they do not trust the police any more. The state government should give due attention to the case, at least now,” he said.
"The investigation in Sowjanya case has been delayed for a year. We will not give room for such indifference any more. CPI (M) will be holding protests in the state to make the government take action. We will be discussing the matter with the chief minister and urging him to hand over the case to the CBI. We do not understand why the chief minister is in denial mode even though the people are protesting. The case will be taken to the parliament to draw the attention of the central government and to impart justice," he said.
G V Sriram Reddy, state secretary of CPI (M) said, “The state government and other political parties are scared to speak against influential forces which have hindered fair investigation. The government and the ministers are speaking for those forces against which the people are expressing their suspicions. It is an example of how low the political parties have stooped.”
“The people in Dakshina Kannada are fighting for justice setting aside their differences. Everybody believes that the truth will come out only with CBI enquiry. The government and the ministers of the district should recognize their voice at least now and realize that no politics stands in front of the opinion of the people. The struggle shall continue until justice is obtained,” he said.
CPI (M) state secretary G V Srirama Reddy, leaders Vasanth Achary, B M Bhat, Shivakumar, Sukanya, DYFI district president Munir Katipalla, Shekhar Laila and author Atradi Amritha Shetty were present.
