Mangaluru, Jan 25: "There is a story in everybody's life. Only a writer sees it and conveys this to the world. Reader reads it and enjoys. Writer should have the 'madness' in him to see the stories talking birth around him. Imagination backed by experience can make wonders in literature," said central academy award winning Konkani poet Melvyn Rodrigues at Don Bosco Hall in city on Monday, January 23.
Melvyn was speaking after releasing the book of short stories titled 'Fathor' (Stones) written my Richie John Pais. Fr Onil D’Souza from St Antony Charitable Institutes, Titus Noronha from Rahul Advertisers, senior writer CGS Taccode, and dramatist Arthur Rasquinha with Fermina, Dillon and Nia Pais were present during the book unveiled.
"'Fathor' has just been unveiled. I have read few of the stories from the collection. Writer cannot talk about what he has written. Only the reader knows the value and greatness of stories. He evaluates them. Fr Jocy Siddakatte has written a beautiful Forward for the book. I pray that good quality stories are created in Konkani." Melvyn added.
CGS Taccode introduced the book and wished well for the author. The book has 12 short stories with various themes of life, he said.
The occasion also witnessed the muhurat of biblical drama 'Thu Vhartho Dhanya' written by Richie John Pais and directed by Arthur Rasquinha. Fr Onil D’Souza blessed the script and it was handed over to the director by the author.
Fr Onil briefed about the life of Job Patriarch from the Bible on whom the play is based. He said though Job may not be a historical figure, his life as depicted in the most poetic book in the Bible belongs to all the time and has a universal theme.
"God comes in the end when Job and his friends present their arguments on evil. We think that God sends misery to people. But he only allows the evil to surround human beings for the greater glory. Pain is part of life. Only when we understand the meaning of it, we can take life in a better way. Evil can only be managed, one cannot avoid it completely. I wish all the best for this drama," Fr Onil said.
Arthur Rasquinha briefed the salient features of the drama and explained how the scenes were dramatized by the author.
Titus Noronha wished the best for the drama.
Richie J Pais welcomed the gathering and said, "I am a humourist and satirist. I never thought I would ever write short stories and dramas. Even after starting to write, I did not know that I would get such a strong response from people. While I thank the readers of stories and audience of dramas for making this possible, I am ever indebted to Almighty for His grace."

Assistant director Jerome Moras, musician Denzil Pereira,artistes Jeevan Vas, Nishma D’Souza, Usha Fernandes, Nigel Pereira, Godwin Pinto, Alwyn Tauro, Steven Fernandes, Joachim Monteiro, Kevin D’Souza, Preetham Monteiro, Macleen D’Souza and others were present.
'Thu Vhartho Dhanya' will be staged on March 5 (Sunday) at Don Bosco Hall at 6 pm.
