Mangaluru, Feb 27: Biblical Konkani drama ‘Tum Vhorto Dhonea' was staged to a huge crowd at St Antony’s Ashram, Jeppu in city on Sunday, February 25.

‘Tum Vhorto Dhonea’ meaning ‘Lord, You are Great’ has been written and produced by Richie John Pais and directed by Arthur Rasquinha. This was the fourth show of the drama, three being staged earlier at Don Bosco Hall to houseful audience. The story is based on the book of Job in the Old Testament. Job Patriarch, the protagonist of the drama, is known for his unshakable faith. He does not lose his faith in his Creator in spite of losing all his wealth and children. His friends visit and comfort him, but they blame him for his misery. God appears to Job in the end and restores his wealth and health.

During a brief stage programme, held before the play, chief guest Fr J B Saldanha, parish priest of Permannur church, congratulated the troupe and wished them best. “I am happy to see a drama being enacted on the life of Job Patriarch. He is known for his faith and wisdom. We are in the modern world of conflicts and increased numbers of miseries. This is the time we learn why evil takes place on earth and how to cope with difficult situations without compromising with faith. I shall be very happy if this play is staged in Permannur."

Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld Media appreciated the efforts of the troupe. “I have already watched this drama and enjoyed it. I am happy to see this drama staged in this place which has attracted a larger crowd. I know how difficult it is to stage a drama, mainly the one with so many artistes and with LED screen. The producer should make sure that this play reaches more people in the near future.”

Fr Onil D’Souza, director of St Antony Ashram, was honoured by Fr J B Saldanha and Walter Nandalike on behalf of the drama troupe, for helping them and for being a guiding spirit from the day the drama was written. Richie John Pais presented a cheque of excess of income over expenditure of drama as donation to St Antony Ashram.

Sunil Menezes, vice-president, Konkani Natak Sabha and Denis D’Silva, social worker and youth leader were present on the dais.

Fr Francis D’Souza conducted the prayer.

Fermina Spinella Pais honoured the artistes and donors on behalf of the producer.

Joshwa D’Souza compered the stage programme.

Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru diocese, who could not attend the stage programme due to a pastoral visit, watched the drama and appreciated the team. “It was a pleasure to watch this brilliant Biblical play. Make sure that more shows are held,” he told the producer and the director.

The drama has been praised for blending of creative abilities and technical brilliance.

Appreciation came from the audience who experienced LED screen for the fourth time on Konkani stage after it was introduced on March 6 last year during the first show of the drama.

The huge audience remained till the end to witness the grand climax which ends with the restoration of health and wealth of Job Patriarch. Deyona Pais, Steffi Pereira and Preema Pinto performed the climax dance.
