Bengaluru: Super cop Annamalai resigns - Political ambitions not clear

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 28: Super cop Annamalai has resigned on Tuesday May 28 thereby putting a full stop to speculations about the rumours of his resignation. But his political ambitions are not yet clear.

In a personal letter addressed to his friends and well wishers, Annamalai says that he wants to take some time out and settle down in his native village and engage himself in farming. “I want to be a good father to my son.” he says in the letter.

His political ambitions are not mentioned in the letter. But a latest tweet from D Poopa IPS says that he resigned to join politics.

He also mentions that his trip to Kailash Manasorovar last year prompted him to change priorities and death of IPS Madhukar Shetty too had some implications on reexamining his life.

He says he enjoyed every bit of being a police officer. He did not want to let down the government during Lok Sabha elections and hence he waited till today to resign.

“I am a too small man to have lofty ambitions,” the letter says indicating that for some time he will be based in his native place rearing sheep and doing farming.

Deccan Herald had earlier reported that Annamalai is said to have met a few RSS leaders in the recent past, but there is no confirmation if he would join the BJP. An RSS source was quoted as saying that Annamalai would be taking the decision on joining politics only after submitting his resignation. Another source said that he may either take up social service or join a national political party.

However, Annamalai himself has denied reports about him joining politics till now.

Hitherto serving as DCP in Bengaluru, Annamalai is known as a strict and upright officer feared by criminals and anti-social elements. During his stint as SP of Udupi, he kept a tight grip on fringe elements and earned the love and respect of the public, so much so that when he was transferred, people protested.

Hailing from Karur in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai began his career as ASP of Karkala sub-division in 2013, before becoming SP of Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts. He was later transferred to Bengaluru.

I really doubt something fishy here.... Looks like the political pressure for his honesty.... May be Baba Budangiri, chickmangalore incident couple of years ago, might have back fired.... BJP always wanted his transfer... As soon Yediyurappa sworn in as a CM for few days, immediately he transferred him to Ramnagar... Later Kumar Swami government reversed the transfer order and after couple of months posted him to Bangalore.... Now looks like pressure from center guys has forced him to resign. He is not disclosing it. May be after few years we may come to know the truth behind his resignation.

We all will wish Mr. Annamalai every success for his future.

When we hear the reasons that made him take this decision we have to bow to him.

It is heartening to see him go back to farming and do social service.

In one occasion we have heard him saying that do not pamper your kid, let them sweat in hot sun and learn the difficult things of world so that they can face the world.

We have seen him as a down to earth person and as a super human being and it is sure that he will be successful in whatever he does.

All in this sanatana country know that politics is the only field where you can earn limitlessly and also be cool because the police, administration and even the judiciary can be controlled.
Really a pathetic state I should say. If this goes on like this, there will be hardly any dedicated officers in this country and this will lead to more corruption and lawlessness, favouritism etc

A good decision. Rather than being an IPS officer and being ordered by MLA's and MP's who do not have qualification like him. It is better to be a politician and rule the country. If not successful then do farming. Best example is a CPI in Telegana who became MP and was saluted by his boss the SP last week. We should have more resignations like this from IPS and IAS and rule the country than being ruled. This should be called UPSC- Exit

If he joins BJP, it could be a BJP's plan to start building the party in TN for the next elections with clean, young and dynamic leaders which will project a different image in states like TN. Indian voters are getting matured and spread of education at the grass root level will make the voters enlighten even more.
